That's all we have from this match as I, Lavil Saldanha and my colleague, Soorya Sesha take your leave. Do check Sportskeeda for all the live cricketing action and sports-related news. Toodles for now as we look to catch up with you sometime soon. SEE YA!
Mahmudullah (Bangladesh captain): It is a good feeling, given that we have won the last couple of matches at home. We need to set the right tone for the series and thus winning the first match is very important. The bowlers have been hungry and disciplined. They have done well and have stuck to their strength, not trying too much and giving it away sometimes. Given the choice, I would have batted first too. Whatever we do, we need to do well and do it to the best of our abilities.
Shakib Al Hasan [Man of the match for 2/10 and 25(33)]: Feels good to win the first match of the series, given the fact that we haven't won anytime before against the Blackcaps. This win will only give us confidence from here on for the rest of the series. We bowled well in the last series (against Australia) and now against New Zealand. We will be looking to better our batting in these conditions and will be looking to post decent total's in the coming future.
Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): Slightly disappointing with the start. I thought we managed a little bit of a partnership in the middle but it was always going to be difficult when we lost too many wickets. We knew it was going to be a challenge but we weren't up to it. Hopefully, we take a lot of learnings from today and it's about finding a way in these conditions. As we showed with the ball tonight it certainly isn't easy with runs on the board. We need to work out what a good score is and find a way to get there. It certainly isn't as easy as it is back home but we have to find a way and credit to the bowlers for the way they bowled today.
Bangladesh win the match by 7 wickets and take a 1-0 lead in the 5 match T20 series

A comprehensive victory for the home side as they take the first match of the series. They were good with the ball in hand and were equally good with the bat in hand as they managed to score the total without breaking much sweat, thus registering a historic first win over the BlackCaps in the shortest format of the game.

The start to the chase was somewhat similar to how New Zealand started. Bangladesh lost a couple of wickets first up and also looked in some trouble when they lost Naim and Liton Das in the powerplay. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim held onto their respective ends and scored runs in singles and doubles as they managed to get past the powerplay, chasing a paltry total without losing any further wickets.

Both the experienced batters continued along for Bangladesh as they later started to take some risks and score runs in boundaries. Shakib then fell looking to cut the ball, but Mahmadullah and Mushfiqur, both experienced in finishing games, held onto their respective ends and sealed things off, with the latter hitting a boundary to end the match with 5 overs to spare.

New Zealand will take a lot of heart in the way they bowled. Rachin Ravindra, Ajaz Patel and Cole McConchie, all three spinners New Zealand used, picked up the three wickets that were plucked by the Kiwi bowlers in this game. Their pacers, Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner and Doug Bracewell did well but couldn't pick any wickets. The fielding was good for them and they will be hoping to put up a much better performance when they take the field day after. Stick around for the presentations

14.6 Cole McConchie to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR! RAHIM SEALS IT IN STYLE! It was a drag down at the stumps and Rahim rocks back to pull it over the vacant mid-wicket region as the ball clears the ropes on the bounce. Bangladesh romp home by 7 wickets with 30 deliveries to spare and complete their first ever win over New Zealand in T20 internationals.
14.5 Cole McConchie to Mahmudullah, TOP EDGE! Mahmudullah walks across and sits on one knee before getting a top-edge on his sweep off a good length delivery over the keeper's head before crossing over for a single.
14.4 Cole McConchie to Mahmudullah, plonks his front foot way outside the off-stump before bringing out a sweep as this length delivery is helped towards short 45.
14.3 Cole McConchie to Mahmudullah, flighted into a full length at the stumps, Mahmudullah comes forward and meets it under his eyeline as he turns it towards mid-wicket.
14.2 Cole McConchie to Mahmudullah, tossed up into a length outside off, Mahmudullah comes forward to push it towards cover point.
14.2 Cole McConchie to Mahmudullah, WIDE! Unfortunate for the bowler! He flights it into a good length on middle and off but this one spins square past the bat as Mahmudullah walks across and the keeper collects it down the leg-side.
14.1 Cole McConchie to Mushfiqur Rahim, quicker delivery on a full length around off, Rahim comes forward to flick it off his wrists towards long on for a run.
Cole McConchie comes back into the attack and will be bowling to Mushfiqur Rahim on strike
Bangladesh is just a couple of moments away from registering its very first victory against New Zealand. They now need only 6 runs in 6 overs that remain and will be looking to finish it off much easily without much fuss.

13.6 Blair Tickner to Mahmudullah, back of a length slower delivery outside off, Mahmudullah picks the slightly low bounce on this one and half crouches but he can only scythe it as far as the fielder at backward point.
13.5 Blair Tickner to Mahmudullah, slower short of a length delivery outside off, Mahmudullah stands up on his toes to open the face of his blade and guide it towards backward point.
13.4 Blair Tickner to Mahmudullah, THICK INSIDE EDGE! Slower delivery on a back of a length radar outside off, Mahmudullah prods at it before running it off the inside edge towards deep fine leg before haring back for the second run.
A cracking shot to bring up the 50 for his side. Tickner got that one short and outside the off stump, Mahmadullah got on top of that one and cut tat away to the boundary ropes for a four
