Commentary

Right! This series is well and truly alive. England had problems stopping Travis Head in Cardiff and got rattled by the Aussie pace-attack at Headingley but clicked with the bat when it mattered the most. Still, they have to showcase their consistency in all facets at Lord's, a venue where the Aussies thrive and have a good record against the hosts

Australia missed Zampa badly and Marsh knows the kind of impact that his premium spinner would've made in the middle overs - a phase where the visitors completely struggled. They will look to come back strong on Friday, so we can't wait for the match to begin. It's time to end the coverage here and hope you enjoyed it. Harry Brook (Player of the Match) - We started off really well with the ball. They started building partnership. With the bat, me and Jacks started to settle. We didn't have much of a chat and the pitch got better at the end of the Australian innings. Thank you, nice to get the first one and hopefully plenty more to come. We need to keep doing the positives and put them under pressure

Mitchell Marsh [Australia Captain]: We did really well to get to 300. Especially with the seaming conditions early on. Hardie played a good knock. We were thinking 250 at one point. (On the England innings) The wicket had flattened out later. We needed to take wickets. Not easy when there is a big partnership like that in between. Zampa was a big miss for us.

8:12 PM Local, 12:42 PM IST - The game has been abandoned. England are 46 runs ahead and they are declared as the winner of this contest. Most importantly, they are still alive in the series. It was a challenging total after seeing Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood heroics in the first ODI. They made 271 look very big with those early strikes and Starc did the same here. He sent both openers cheaply and when England needed someone to do the rebuilding act, Jacks and Brook accepted the role.

They started slowly but their shots were measured to perfection. Once they unsettled the bowlers, they started scoring the boundaries at ease. Marsh looked for his bowling options to break the partnership but it didn't come off until Green's bumper got big on Jacks. The tall pacer broke the stand to even out things but Australia's momentum lasted only for a short while as Livingstone pulled the trigger straightaway and played big shots. Brook, meanwhile, held his shape throughout and picked his spots against the short deliveries. Australia had just one plan to tackle England in the middle phase and it became too predictable

Brook grew from strength to strength and scored his maiden ODI hundred to help England stamp their authority in the game. When the rain interrupted the hosts were in cruise control and turned out to be a deserved winner of this contest.

Starc looked to be a real menace when he sent the openers back in the hut but he struggled to create an impact since then. Perhaps, it was questionable from Marsh to take him out of the attack within three overs when he was bowling superbly inside the powerplay
