That’s all from us tonight! It was a game full of big moments, and England Champions finally get on the board to keep their chances alive. This is Meeth Agrawal and Darpan Tikiya, signing off from Sportskeeda’s live coverage. Thanks for joining us, and we’ll catch you again for the next one. Until then, take care and keep the cricket fever alive!
Eoin Morgan (England Champions captain): "Perfect game really. A captain is as good as his team. Good performance. Ravi Bopara's innings was the difference. India came back well, but our bowlers responded. I would not say we were "well above par". The wicket here is pretty good. You never feel too far out of the game. With the score we posted, we needed one or two bowlers to step up and they did. Sidebottom got the ball to swing around. Great to see him utilise any swing. It is great to have him back. Guys are quite relaxed. They are experienced and understand the ebbs and flows of a tournament."
Yuvraj Singh (India Champions Captain): "I think we didn't bowl well. 200 was chaseable. Gave 20 runs extra. We didn't get momentum with the bat and kept losing wickets. England bowled better. And the way Ravi played and Ian Bell too, they took the game and if you don't bowl well, you'll get hit. Back-to-back games, hard on our bodies. (On Harbhajan Singh) He is one of India's legends of the game and bowled really well. I just nicely set up to hit a few more, but couldn't stay more at the crease."
Ravi Bopara (Player of the Match): "Very good day's work. We haven't won many games in this tournament thus far. So, good to get a win. It is a good pitch, so we knew anything could happen. They have some good players as we have seen over the years. Birthday boy Ajmal Shahzad did really well. I did feel some nerves. It gets a bit worse when you get older. When you are young, you look at the up side. When you're old, there is some expectation. Mostly from your own self."
8:06 PM local time, 12:36 AM IST: Time for the post match presentation.
7:53 PM Local Time, 12:23 AM IST: England Champions win by 23 runs
Ravi Bopara - 110* (55) | Ajmal Shahzad - 4/31 Yusuf Pathan - 52 (29) | Harbhajan Singh - 2/18
England Champions register their first win of the season, and what a time to do it! This win keeps them alive in the race for the knockouts, while India Champions now find themselves staring at the exit door. They’ll need a massive win in their next game to have even a remote chance and even that might not be enough.
The star of the night? No doubt, Ravi Bopara. A magnificent century, an important wicket (dismissing a well-set Stuart Binny), and three sharp catches. A complete performance that turned the game around.
Chasing a daunting 224, India never really got going. Robin Uthappa fell for a duck, and then Ajmal Shahzad struck with his very first ball to knock over Dhawan. Ambati Rayudu tried to settle in, but fell just when he looked set. Yuvraj Singh chipped in with a handy cameo and shared a promising partnership with Yusuf Pathan, who once again delivered with the bat, bringing up his half-century.
But the early damage hurt, and the ask was always steep. Yusuf fought till the end, but Ajmal Shahzad bowled a brilliant final over, defending 25 runs and taking two wickets in two balls to finish things off.
Up next: India Champions vs West Indies Champions. That match could be the decider for all three: India, West Indies, and England. Only one of them will go through, and as things stand, it’s likely to be either England or West Indies.

19.6 Ajmal Shahzad to Vinay Kumar, ANOTHER WICKET! And this time it is a blinder from Sidebottom that does it. Vinay Kumar stood with an open stance. Shahzad fired a full ball at the leg peg. The batter went through with the hoick. Sidebottom, stationed at short fine leg, turned around and ran towards it before flinging himself forward to complete an excellent catch. England Champions win by 23 runs and stay alive in the tournament.
Vinay Kumar batting at 9th position
Yusuf Pathan has been dismissed for 52 runs off 29 balls
19.5 Ajmal Shahzad to Yusuf Pathan, GETS THE ELEVATION... ONLY TO GET OUT CAUGHT! This one was a full toss. Yusuf wanted to muscle it over mid-off, but could not catch it in the meat of the blade. He ended up slicing it towards cover. The ball went high, allowing the bowler enough time to run towards it, settle under and pouch it.
19.4 Ajmal Shahzad to Yusuf Pathan, very full again, outside off. Yusuf dragged it from there to long-on. But more importantly, could not get the desired elevation.
19.3 Ajmal Shahzad to Yusuf Pathan, again, very full, at the off peg. Yusuf could only dig it out back to the bowler.
19.2 Ajmal Shahzad to Yusuf Pathan, very full, outside off. Yusuf could not get under it. Hit it to mid-off and did not run.
India Champions Scored 200 runs in 19.2 overs
19.2 Ajmal Shahzad to Yusuf Pathan, similar ball but this one finished outside the tram line. Yusuf could not lay bat on ball. Wide called. 24 off 5 needed.
19.1 Ajmal Shahzad to Yusuf Pathan, MISSES! Dot ball. 25 needed off 5 balls. Full ball that flirted with the tram line on the off side. Yusuf stretched but could not lay bat on ball.
Ajmal Shahzad to bowl the final over
Sidebottom with a costly drop of Pathan in that over and the latter wents on to smash a four and a six later. 25 needed off the final over. Onus on Yusf Pathan to pull this off for India Champions.
