As Australia lift the trophy and begin the celebrations, we conclude the 2024 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. After 41 matches across 23 days, the Aussies emerge as the deserved champions. That will be all from our end, this is Raghav and Soumarya signing off!
Hugh Weigben, Australian Captain: So proud of the boys and our coaches, couldn't have been prouder. Everyone was open to it (on batting first), the plan was to get a few runs and back ourselves. Harjas is a quality player, full credit to coaches for sticking by him and he repaird their faith today. India are a class side, they dominated the whole tournament, just ended up on the wrong side. I'm sure these guys will do a lot of great things in their career. They can go so far, as a unit they know their roles so well.
Uday Saharan, Indian Captain: Very proud of all the boys, everybody contributed towards the eventual result and that is something to be proud of. The preparation was good but the execution wasn't, some of the boys played some rash shots, had they stayed around for longer, we could have had a different result. We have learnt a lot from the tournament and we will take plenty of positives from here.
Player of The Tournament, Kwena Maphaka : Really means a lot, I have worked a lot for it and happy to have a great tournament. Unfortunately, did not get over the line but this means a lot. I worked on my inswinger a lot and that gave me a lot of success. Super eager (on joining the likes of Rabada and Nortje in future) but I also have to do a lot of hard work to get there.
MahaliBeardman - The plan was to bowl stump to stump and use my short ball accordingly. Through DL, I learnt the mental side of the game and how to set up the batters and get them out. Vidler was outstanding for us and he was superb in England as well. He is one of the best in the cartel and we love having him around. The target would be to go on and play big bash and then play for my provincial side.
Calum Vidler- We've been in Brisbane and England and the moment has finally come. We enjoy each other's company and we are all great mates. We will see where the night takes us and it is something that one dreams of.
Sam Konstas- I'm lost for words and the boys did really well. India are the bench mark in this tournament but we came out on the winning side of it. Credit goes to our coaches and we stuck to our guns to execute the plans. This feels really great.
India (174 all out in 43.5 Overs) lose by 79 runs Adarsh Singh 47(77) | Murgan Abhishek 42(46) Mahli Beardman 3/15(7) | Raf MacMillan 3/43(10)
Well, chasing a score of 250+ in these conditions against a mighty Aussie attack was always going to be difficult. India needed a strong start but they lost an early wicket. Australia on the other hand, made no mistakes on the field aside from a dropped catch. The new ball bowlers, Vidler and Anderson were right on the money and India had no answers.
However, the biggest blows were struck after first drinks break when Saharan and Dhas departed within quick successions. Beardman ensured that Australia stayed on the driver's seat after new ball bowlers' strong efforts. India looked out of sorts and at that particular moment, Raf MacMillan came to spin his web.
Adarsh Singh put up a brave fight but India were never in the chase. Beardman eventually castled him for his 3rd scalp and hit the final nail in the coffin. Tiwari and Murugan showed some resistance in the later stages but they were only delaying the inevitable.
Australia deserved champions of the tournament, and today they showed why they were unbeaten. A full-fledged domination right from first ball to clinch their 4th Under-19 World Cup title.
Game, set and match! Australia are the unbeaten champions of the ICC U-19 World Cup 2024!
