Commentary

We were blessed with a proper humdinger of a contest with some delightful batting performances on display. Even for the neutral, this game was as good as it gets. This T20 World Cup keeps churning out close contests and hopefully, that continues to be the case as we enter the business end. There's another crucial game lined up for this group as Pakistan face South Africa tomorrow. That has all the makings of another thriller. Do join us for that one as well. India emerge victorious and move to the top of the table, solidifying their chances of making it through to the semi-finals. It was a hard-fought win in the end but it's the two crucial points on board that matters in the end. It's a big blow to Bangladesh's hopes of making it to the next round and they will have to depend on other results to go their way.

Phew! That was a nail-biting contest and some. Bangladesh will be left ruing their chances after this game. Perhaps they were a tad unfortunate with how the DLS total played out for them and lost their hands in the middle. It was another thrilling contest, fitting of an India vs Bangladesh T20 game that does tend to produce thrilling games that are not meant for the faint hearted.

Rohit Sharma (Indian captain): I was calm and nervous at the same time. It was important for the group to tp stay calm and execute the plans. I thought we held our nerves pretty well after the resumption. It was a good win in the end. (Arshdeep Singh) When he came into the scene, we asked him to do that job for us. With Bumrah not there, someone had to step up to take that role. For someone to come in and do that is not easy. (Final over) There was a choice between Shami and him but I had to back someone who is doing the job for us regularly. (Virat Kohli back to his best?) In my opinion, he was always there. It was only a matter of a few innings, which he got in the Asia Cup and he hasn't looked back since. We never had any kind of doubts about him. He's a player who has so much experience in so many major tournaments. We know what he brings to the group. Also impressed with how KL batted as well. If the bats the way he does, it puts the team in a great situation. (Fielding today) Our fielding was brilliant. Some of the catches we took under pressure were great to see. It shows the character of the guys as well. I had no doubts about our fielding, you can have those off days but we were really good today.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh captain): It's been the story when we play against India. We are always there but we never get over the line. It was a great game of cricket. Everyone enjoyed it. Someone had to lose. (Litton Das) He's probably our best batter going around. The way we batted in the first six overs, it gave us the momentum and belief that we can win this game. Especially with the conditions on offer. (Decision of finish Taskin's overs upfront) If you look at India's top four, they are really dangerous. We wanted to get them out early and that's why we stuck with Taskin. He didn't pick up wickets but I think he was unlucky with that. He was economical and did really well. We've been very relaxed in the dressing room. We don't really talk about a lot of cricket. We wanted to enjoy the World Cup. We have been enjoying our cricket and there's one more game to go after this, so we'll look to do just that.

Another good day with the bat. I was just trying to play myself into the innings. I was watching the ball well and I did not want to let a few mistakes curb my instincts. I am just in a happy place. Don't want to compare anything. What is in the past is in the past. Don't want to compare. As soon as I knew the World Cup is in Australia, I was grinning from ear to ear. I knew good cricketing shots would be key. I have always done that and it is just an extension and I knew my experience would come in handy in Australia. Disbelief and tears amongst the Bangladeshi contingent of fans and players. Taskin Ahmed cannot hold back the tears in the dugout. It was a champion effort from him today, fighting till the end, even with the bat in hand. Bangladesh had this game in their grasp and were in the ascendancy before the rain came pouring down and took it away from them.

After posting a healthy total on the board, India were put under the pump by a masterclass from Litton Das. The opener showed his class to put the Indian pacers to the sword in the Powerplay, blazing his way through to the second-fastest half-century of the tournament. Bangladesh were on top then, before the heavens opened up after the seventh over.

The stoppage in play was always going to be a tricky one for both sides but it's fair to say, India coped better with the pressure on the day. It all began unraveling for the Tigers when Das was runout two balls after the resumption, courtesy of some brilliance in the field to rifle in a direct hit from the deep. That was the crucial turning point in the game which swung the momentum back in India's favor.

In the end, it was India's fielding that proved to be the difference between the two sides. In a crazy passage of play where Bangladesh lost their heads, the team lost 4 wickets for 9 runs to hand the initiative back to India. That should have been that but Nurul Hasan and Taskin Ahmed had other plans.

With 31 needed off the last two overs, the two fought commendably to make a contest out of this game. With 20 needed off the final over, it was a bit of a scare for Arshdeep as it all came down a bit too close for India's liking, but the young left-arm seamer managed to hold his nerve to get his side over the line. Take nothing away from Bangladesh though, who were absolutely sensational in the way they fought but unfortunately came out on the wrong side of the result. What a game at the Oval.
