The total was always going to be challenging give the nature of the track. On a pitch that misbehaving every now and then in terms of bounce, the English openers came out with a clear intention of searching for a draw. The patient partnership between Cook and Haseeb Hameed made life tough for Indian bowlers as they had to wait until the 51st over to get their first wicket. The Indian spinners capitalized on the breakthrough and ran through the English batting line and cleaned them up for just 158 in the second innings. The Indian team went on to win the match by a mammoth margin of 246 runs in the final day and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.
