IND vs ENG Live Score and Commentary

England thought they had already done half the work upon winning the toss in Mohali. However, their below par first-innings total eroded the advantage. India's all-round spin trio managed to stretch the lead with a commendable batting display.

Armed with scoreboard pressure, Ashwin imposed himself on the visitors to induce a fatal collapse even as Shami polished off the tail. The hosts chased the paltry target to complete a 8-wicket victory and take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Preview

The Indian Test team’s juggernaut, which was halted in Rajkot by England, resumed in Vizag as they registered a comprehensive win over the visitors. India displayed all-round professionalism on the field, riding on Virat Kohli with the bat, and Ravichandran Ashwin with the ball.

Another player, who impressed everyone in Vizag, was the debutant from Haryana, Jayant Yadav. Not only did Yadav bowl tightly throughout the match, also taking four wickets in the process, but he also displayed a lot of character with the bat, coming lower down the order. The pitch in Vizag assisted the spinners, and hence India went with three spinners, and two fast bowlers.

The Mohali pitch, however, has historically suited the quick bowlers. But over the years, it has slowed down and even spun from day two of a Test. The toss should play a crucial role. The team batting first would look to bat first, and put runs on the board.

Pitch conditions

Last year, India played a low scoring Test against South Africa in Mohali on a wicket that turned out to be a rank-turner. The pitch for tomorrow's match will, once again, not possess much grass, and will be dry and shaved. Also, given that winters has arrived in north India, the pitch should not bake much. The pitch should play slow, without providing much assistance to the quick bowlers.

Team News

India: Parthiv Patel will be replacing Wriddhiman Saha for the keeper’s spot, unless Kohli decides to play Karun Nair, while handing the gloves to KL Rahul which is highly unlikely. Jayant Yadav is also likely to be retained, and might even get to bat ahead of Ravindra Jadeja at number 8.

England: England will make three changes due to fitness and form issues. Jos Buttler's has been recalled in place of Ben Duckett, while Chris Woakes’ returns for the injured Stuart Broad. Gareth Batty is expected to take the place of Surrey team-mate Zafar Ansari, who is unavailable.

Probable line-ups:

India 1 KL Rahul, 2 M Vijay, 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, 4 Virat Kohli (capt), 5 Ajinkya Rahane, 6 R Ashwin, 7 Parthiv Patel (wk), 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Jayant Yadav, 10 Umesh Yadav, 11 Mohammad Shami

England 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Haseeb Hameed, 3 Joe Root, 4 Moeen Ali, 5 Jonny Bairstow (wk), 6 Ben Stokes, 7 Jos Buttler, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Adil Rashid, 10 Gareth Batty, 11 James Anderson
