IND won by an inning and 222 runs.
Player of the match: Ravindra Jadeja
All eyes on pink-ball Test now, as the two sides get a bit of an extended break. The contingent will move to Bangalore for the second Test, which will begin on the 12th. We'll have a few of our very own cricketing faithfuls at the Chinnaswamy, to bring you live updates from that one. That's all we have for now though! This is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Shashwat Kumar and the rest of the crew at Sportskeeda. Thank you for joining us! Ta-ta!
Right then. What started out as a landmark Test for Virat Kohli has turned into a bit of a spectacle for the Indian side. The former captain amassed 8000 Test runs in 100 matches. Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin overtook Kapil Dev to become the second highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. Vihari and Pant's performances with the other few boxes ticked off for India, but overshadowing them all, was Ravindra Jadeja. This will be known as his Test match. Not a bad start to Rohit's captaincy tenure, is it?

As for the Sri Lanka, they were demolished by a superior side, that needed no second invitation. With some ordinary batting displays in two days and bowling unit that lacked any sort of attacking prowess, they were second-best throughout this contest. There'll be a few positives to take which they would love to build on, ahead of the second Test in less than a week's time.
The Man of the Match is.... Just playing! No surprises there. Ravindra Jadeja! Here's what he has to say after his epic performance.

"I would say this is my lucky ground. Whenever I come here, I always get positive vibes. I was looking to build partnership with Pant. The way he was looking to go after the bowlers, I was just looking to support him and enjoying his batting. To be honest I don't know anything about stats (hundred and ten-for) but I amf feeling good and very happy to do well for the team with bat and ball. That will give me confidence going forward. When you perform like this as a player, you feel very confident. To be honest, I haven't done anything differently with my batting. Just backing my instincts and playing to my strenghts. I try to give myself a little more time to settle down and after that I watch the ball and play my shots. I don't do anything different in the middle. Just look to keep it very simple. I haven't played with the SG pink ball, so it will be something new and interesting. We'll practice for a couple of days. Hopefully, it will be good after a couple of days of practice. I always enjoyed bowling with the SG ball."
Rohit Sharma (India captain): It was a good start. It was a great game of cricket from our perspective. We ticked all the boxes we wanted to. So, we're really happy with the performance. To be honest, I never thought it'll be the kind of Test that will get over in three days. There was something for the seamers and spinners but it was a good pitch to bat on as well. A lot of credit to the guys. They bowled pretty well in tandem. They kept applying the pressure and never made it easy for the Sri Lankan batters to get going. We knew that it's a fast outfield, so the runs are easier to come by if you dig in. But from our side, we just wanted to make sure we're applying the pressure from both ends. We knew there would be some odd bounce, so we were just waiting for their batters to make mistakes. Firstly, there's good signs for Indian cricket. A landmark Test match for Virat. We obviously wanted to come out and win the match, first and foremost. With such big performances from these individuals, it was very heartening to see. (On bowling Jayant when Jadeja was on 8 wickets) No thought process. Just making sure we utilise the bowlers we have. The likes of Jadeja and Ashwin have taken a lot of wickets in India. We want to have other options as well, for when those guys will not be available. We just wanted to make sure he gets to bowl some overs. The performance of Jadeja was the highlight of this game. To come out and bat like that showed a lot of maturity and to end up not-out was a great effort. There were a few questions on whether I had to declare or not but eventually it was the team and Jadeja's decision to put them in, which shows how selfless he is. It will be our second pink ball Test match at home. Not many guys are used to pink ball Test in India. It will be a challenge, of course. The Indian conditions has it's own challenges compared to other places. We'll see what kind of pitch we're playing on, and take it from there.
Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka captain): We never thought it's going to get over on day three. The batters need to put their hands up and bat for long hours. It's not too easy to bat on this track but once you get set, you have to put up big scores. We were backing ourselves(on playing three seamers). The wicket had some cracks, we thought there would be some uneven bounce, some up and down. We couldn't execute our plans too well to restrict then. The calculation was mistaken. We lost 16 wickets but we weren't too defensive. We can play the big shots but have to find a way to rotate strike. We can hang in there and hit the ball a long way but rotation of strike is equally important, especially against the big sides. The batters need to put their hands up. We did well in the first two sessions with the ball but we lost our way from there. We will look to come back stronger in the next game.
Time for the presentations.
R Ashwin: He (Jadeja) has come a long way. The number he bats is a little low the way he is batting. His batting has gone one notch higher and it is reflecting in his performances. In between we both realized that Jayant had not bowled a lot. Rohit also wanted to make sure he bowled. Jaddu decided that he would give up his end to allow Jayant to bowl. Sometimes it is not easy to be the third spinner and Jaddu was magnanimous enough to give the ball to him. I wanted to work on something with the bat. Does not always come off immediately and I wanted to take it one ball at a time. I am glad it came through. The surface was pretty good. It was not easy to get the batters out. Bumrah and Shami created consistent pressure as well, they stuck to their guns and bowled their hearts out. Giving a follow-on and getting the job done was fantastic.
India win by an innings and 222 runs.

India were the dominant side from start to finish as they wrap up this contest in comprehensive fashion. It was the first innings total that set them up in this commanding position. Six wickets in the final session and 16 wickets in the day to bundle out Sri Lanka twice in two days and take a firm grip in this series.

The batting performance was spectacular in the first game with most batters getting amongst the runs. Vihari was good for his half-century, while Pant was at his free-flowing best for his 96. However, the star of the show was Ravindra Jadeja, who stood head and shoulders above the rest.

His 175 was perhaps the best batting performance he has produced in the international cricket, while he ran riot with the ball as well. Taking nine wickets in the game, he ran through the Sri Lankan batting unit that has plenty of experience but lacked maturity.

Ashwin was the perfect second fiddle to the Ravindra Jadeja show. The off-spinner notched up some records of his own, becoming the second-highest wicket-taker for India, overtaking the legendary Kapil Dev.

There were a few positives for Sri Lanka, with Karunaratne, Nissanka and Dickwella showing some good resistance with the bat. Their bowling however, lacked the firepower, with team selection having a part to play in that perhaps. To make matters worse, the injury to Lahiru Kumara only made things worse for the visitors.

All in all, it's a thumping victory for the Indians as they take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Another game wrapped up in three days, as they continue to be a juggernaut in Test cricket. It was the perfect start for Rohit Sharma, in his first game as Test captain.

We'll hear his thoughts and more, as we wait for the presentations. Stick around!
After blocking out most of the over, Lahiru Kumara has an ugly hoick across the line on the final delivery. Quite needless, but no one's complaining. That wraps up the proceedings in this first Test. India win by an innings and 222 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

59.6 R Ashwin to Lahiru Kumara, OUT! THAT WILL BE THAT! Flighted on a length outside off stump and Kumara has a wild slog at it. No foot movement, though, meaning that he slices it horribly towards mid off, where Shami makes up a bit of ground and completes the catch! No 10-fer for Jadeja this game but this has been a clinical performance from the Indians!
59.5 R Ashwin to Lahiru Kumara, length delivery on middle and leg stump. Kumara gets onto the front foot and defends the ball into the off side
59.4 R Ashwin to Lahiru Kumara, SAFE! Flighted on a length on middle and off stump. Kumara comes forward and chips it down the ground. Falls just short of mid on
59.3 R Ashwin to Niroshan Dickwella, full delivery down the leg side. Dickwella gets onto the front foot and glances it down to the sweeper at deep backward square leg for one
59.2 R Ashwin to Niroshan Dickwella, length delivery on middle and leg stump. Dickwella comes half forward before meeting the ball right under his eyes with a nigh on dead bat
Around the wicket
59.1 R Ashwin to Niroshan Dickwella, length delivery on leg stump. Dickwella gets onto the front foot and drops the ball into the leg side with very soft hands
An injured hamstring is bad enough, so Lahiru Kumara ensures he won't end up with a pair. There's just 5 overs left in today's play. The light is fading around the stadium once more. India will want to wrap things up today itself.
