All of this will be at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore as a rollicking Rawalpindi leg comes to a close. There is still one more game left though in the league phase with the Qalandars taking on Karachi Kings at home in an hour from now. Do return to this very platform to catch our coverage of that contest. For the moment though, this is the duo of Bidipto Datta and Sooryanarayanan Sesha taking your leave. Thank you so much for tuning into our coverage of this contest. Wishing you a great week ahead - buh-bye for now!
It's a win that Peshawar Zalmi can be very proud of. That they managed to win defending a score after the shellacking they received in the last two games despite all the runs they put up will boost their confidence massively. Skipper Babar Azam should return for the Eliminator too and things might just start looking onwards and upwards for them. As for Islamabad United, they will sweat over the fitness of his namesake - Azam Khan - and hope that he turns up ready for that all-important clash. These two teams will go up against each other in the Eliminator on Thursday, a day after Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans lock horns in Qualifier 1.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore (Peshawar Zalmi captain): From the last couple of games I thought we were 60 short (grins). But I thought our bowlers did really well. I think the pitch was slightly different but the bowlers adapted to conditions well today. It was holding a little bit and showed some spin. I thought Mujeeb was absolutely outstanding today - for him to go for 23 or 24 here shows his skill. Everybody else was also outstanding. (On having to face the same opponent in the Eliminator) It's a different day and we're going to have to come out and turn up. That's also the good bit about knockout cricket - you have to do well in three games to win it.
Mohammad Haris is the Player of the Match for his stunning knock of 79. Here's what he has to say: When we (him and Rajapaksa) were batting together we felt we could get 220. But as I was batting I realized this wasn't a 220 wicket. I am happy to bat anywhere. You have to be flexible and wherever I get an opportunity I am happy to contribute.
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United captain): I think the changes in this game did not quite work in out batting order. We played a few rash shots and threw out wickets away at just the wrong time. Perhaps we could have bowled better up front with the new ball but did well to keep them to under 200. Anyway, we will look forward to out next match in the playoffs and hopefully, get the plans and execution right.
Let's hear it from the man of the moment, Khurram Shahzad!
Khurram: Getting the last over for the 2nd time here! Mind was pretty clear, and I was looking forward to nailing those fast yorkers. Thankfully, I got the job done in the end. Faheem bhai was going well in the over but I stuck to my guns and got the wicket.
Match Summary: Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by 13 runs.
Mohammad Haris 79 (39) | Khurram Shahzad 3/13 (1.4) Faheem Ashraf 38 (13) | Hasan Ali 3/39 (4)
Sanity restored in terms of the scores, but we were in for an insane finish there. Faheem Ashraf so nearly pulled off a stunning heist for Islamabad United but alas, it wasn't to be and as a result, they will finish outside the top-two, making every game to come in the playoffs a must-win encounter.
The chase began in terrible fashion for United, after their bowlers stormed back to restrict Peshawar Zalmi under 180. Hassan Nawaz failed to trouble the scorers and the move to hold Rahmanullah Gurbaz came apart for United, with Sohaib Maqsood and Colin Munro shored up instead. Maqsood looked threatening in his first game of the season but he wasn't able to kick on and make it count. With Alex Hales also throwing it away, United were reeling at the end of the powerplay.
Sufiyan Muqeem posed a big threat thereafter with his left-arm wrist-spin, even as he started in ordinary fashion. A crucial spell from James Neesham saw him nip the two most crucial wickets in the bud, as both Munro and Gurbaz perished to leave United in a real limbo. Gurbaz was in the mood to counter-attack and his wicket just as he was set was the final nail in the coffin, especially after skipper Shadab Khan had also perished.
It all just came apart thereafter as wickets fell like ninepins. Swinging like rusty gates didn't help with Asif Ali and Hasan Ali allowing the pressure of the asking rate get to them. If only one of them had hung around with Faheem thereafter, things could have been completely different, given how the southpaw didn't go down without giving it everything. 54 runs were needed off the last three overs and with just two wickets in hand, he dumped anything in the slot into the crowd to take it down to the wire.
For some reason, Khurram Shahzad, who bowled just the opening over of the second innings, was directly summoned to bowl the last. It seemed as though he was under the pump as a slot delivery disappeared, but he showed fantastic courage and self-confidence in backing his ploy to aim for the base of the stumps. Two pinpoint yorkers saw him wrap things up and ensure that Zalmi would head into the playoffs with a lot of confidence under their belt. Stay tuned as we hear from the captains shotly...
Where was he hidden after that first over? He'll just start and finish the innings with three wickets then. What a brilliant piece of execution from Khurram Shahzad as Peshawar Zalmi take this game by 13 runs. Multan Sultans now secure a berth in Qualifier 1!
19.4 Khurram Shahzad to Fazalhaq Farooqi, OH! PIN-POINT YORKER AT 141 CLICKS! AND THAT CLEANS UP FAROOQI! Full and straight on off-stump. Farooqi tries to get some bat on it to run it down behind square on the off-side. But he is too late on it as the ball sears into his off-stump's base and uproots it! Peshawar Zalmi get a big win here!
Fazalhaq Farooqi b Khurram Shahzad 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6)
Fazalhaq Farooqi, RHB, is the last man out in the middle
Or just nail a pinpoint yorker at the stumps, if you don't mind! What a scorching delivery from Shahzad and that surely has to be the game now. Well played though, Faheem Ashraf. That was a valiant effort!
19.3 Khurram Shahzad to Faheem Ashraf, BOWLED HIM! THAT MAY WELL DO IT FOR PESHAWAR! A yorker on off-stump at pace. Faheem tried to swing through the line to get some power behind it. But all he could do in the end is inside edge it back on to his leg-stump!
Faheem Ashraf b Khurram Shahzad 38 (13b, 2x4, 4x6)
YES HE CAN! 50-run partnership up between Faheem and Wasim and the United dugout is cheering them on. What a classic finish we are headed towards. Simon Doull reckons Shahzad should go pace off and wide of off stump here. Surely not a bad option.
19.2 Khurram Shahzad to Faheem Ashraf, SIX RUNS! Khurram missed his length by only just and bowled a low full toss on off. Faheem was still able to manage getting under it and send it over long-on for a maximum!
20 needed off 5. Can Faheem clear the ropes?
19.1 Khurram Shahzad to Mohammad Wasim, over the wicket, full toss on off-stump. Heaved away to deep mid-wicket from the crease for only a single!
Khurram Shahzad [1.0-0-6-1] to bowl the final over of the game. He's coming on for his second at this stage having bowled the opening over of the innings. Wow!
That's a result that Zalmi will not mind since it keeps Faheem Ashraf off strike. It all boils down to this though - Islamabad United require 21 runs off the final over to seal a top-two finish. Else, it's the Multan Sultans who will join Lahore Qalandars in Qualifier 1. Whose side are you on?

18.6 Salman Irshad to Mohammad Wasim, short and slow again outside off. Wasim misses the massive swing towards deep square-leg but ends up getting a leg-bye to backward point!
