Hasan Ali: A Brief Biography

Hasan Ali Biography


Hasan Ali is a Pakistani cricketer who has played in all three formats of the game since 2016.


He was born on 7th February 1994 in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, Pakistan. He is a predominant right-arm medium-fast bowler who is handy right-hand batsman down the order.


He became the fifth quickest bowler and the quickest Pakistani player to take 50 wickets in ODIs on 18th October 2017 against Sri Lanka.


Background


At the age of 19, he made his first-class debut against Lahore Ravi and claimed 4 wickets in the first innings.


The scouts started noticing a raw talent which had blend of variations in the 2015 National T20 Cup in where he picked up eight wickets in four matches.


17 wickets in the National One-Day cup in 2016 got him enough attention to be selected under the category of emerging category by Peshawar Zalmi in the first season of PSL.


Debut


He made his debut in the first ODI of Pakistan’s tour of England and Ireland at Dublin on 18th August 2016.


The match was a one-sided encounter as Pakistan beat Ireland by 255 runs with Ali failing to pick any wicket after bowling 5 overs.


On 7th September 2016, he made his T20I debut against England when he finished with figures of 2/24, claiming the wickets of Joe Root and Ben Stokes at Manchester.


The debut in the longest format of the game came on 10th May 2017 in Pakistan’s tour of West Indies, as he picked 3 wickets in the second innings after failing to get any in the first innings.


Rise to Glory


After impressing for Pakistan in the ODIs, he was named in the 15-man squad for the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.


Pakistan went on to win the tournament with Ali picking up thirteen wickets which were the joint highest in the tournament, winning himself the Golden Ball.


He won the player of the tournament award in his debut ICC event.


In October 2017, after becoming the quickest player to claim 50 ODI Wickets, he moved to the number 1 position in ICC ODI rankings for bowlers, taking just 426 days from debut becoming the third-fastest of all time.


In 2017, he took the most wickets in ODIs by any bowler, with 45 dismissals in 18 matches and was named the ICC’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year as well as the PCB's Emerging Player of the Year.


He finished 2017 as the top-ranked fast bowler in the ICC Player Rankings in ODI.


Club Career


He plays for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League. In 2017, he played for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League as a replacement for Kieran Powell and Comilla Victorians of Bangladesh Premier League as an overseas player.


Records


On 18th October 2017, he became the Quickest bowler for Pakistan to take 50 wickets in ODIs which he claimed in just 24 matches.


He won the Golden Ball award in his debut ICC Event for Pakistan (2017 ICC Champions Trophy).


He was named the PCB's Emerging Player of the Year and ICC’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.


He finished 2017 as the top-ranked fast bowler in the ICC Player Rankings in ODI cricket claiming most wickets in the calendar year.


He finished as the Peshawar Zalmi's second-highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets from 11 matches in the 2017 edition.
