Romario Shepherd Domestic Career
Romario Shepherd made his List-A debut for Guyana against Leeward Islands in the Nagico Super50 tournament. He had a memorable debut as he won the ‘Player of The Match’ award for his figures of 3/37.
He made his First-Class debut for Guyana against Jamaica in Kingston on March 10, 2017. The Guyanese all-rounder scored his first and only FC ton against New Zealand A in the West Indies’s tour of New Zealand in late 2020.
Shepherd made his T20 debut for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League 2018 against Trinbago Knight Riders. He picked up 3 prized wickets on his debut, including that of the eventual ‘Player of The Match’ Colin Munro, Brendon McCullum, and Darren Bravo, but it went in vain as the Knight Riders won comprehensively by 67 runs.
He won the title with the Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2023. He contributed with the ball by picking up 12 wickets and struck a few runs lower down the order at a gigantic strike rate of 235.41 in 12 matches.
Romario Shepherd IPL Career
Romario Shepherd was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 7.75 crores which had raised quite a few eyebrows as he had not established himself largely in the international circuit. He played 3 games in that season and did not fire with both the bat and the ball. For the heavy paycheck he had received, Shepherd was not given a long run to prove himself.
Shepherd was released and bought by the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2023 auction for INR 50 lakhs. He played a solitary match for the Super Giants in that season and was traded to the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024.
The big West Indian took the IPL 2024 by storm when he smoked Anrich Nortje of Delhi Capitals for 33 runs in the last over of the first innings. Shepherd scored 39 runs off 10 balls at a staggering strike rate of 390, the highest strike rate in an innings in IPL 2024 (min. 10 balls). He powered MI to a score above 200 in the final over and added a valuable 30+ runs. He was eventually adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for being the point of difference as MI trounced the Capitals by a margin of 29 runs in a batting paradise at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and won their first match of the season.

Romario Shepherd made his T20I debut against Ireland at Basseterre on January 18, 2020. He took the solitary wicket of Kevin O’Brien but the match was abandoned due to rain.
Shepherd was involved in a record partnership with Akeal Hosein in England’s tour of the West Indies in January 2022. The lower-order pair put on 72 runs, the highest partnership for the ninth wicket in T20Is among full-member nations but it went in vain as the visitors won by a solitary run.
Shepherd was included in the West Indies’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
