Shardul Thakur (Player of the Match): Even I don't know where it came from (his innings) but looking at the scorecard anyone would have thought that we were struggling. You have to pre-empt what the bowlers are going to do and back yourself to hit. You also have to have skills to do that here at the higher level. We work hard in the nets and there is a period where you can slog it out in the nets. The coaches nowadays help you by giving you throw-downs and give you range-hitting sessions. The pitches also suit batters, don't they? We spoke about having the depth in our bowling as well as batting department. Suyash bowled exceptionally well and we know the quality that Sunil and Varun have. It was a perfect day - with three spinners and a variety in our bowling, we did great.

Nitish Rana (KKR captain): Obviously, there were a lot of positives in the last game. Top order collapsed a little, just like the last game. Credit to Gurbaz. What can I say about Shardul - it was an unbelievable innings. No doubt Shardul batted well. The role of Rinku to hold one end while Shardul attacks the bowlers is what our plan was. We had it in our minds that we won't give pace to RCB in the middle overs as they like pace in the middle overs. Umesh and Southee bowled well and then we implemented our spinners. He's as very different character - he backs himself a lot. We had it in our plans initially that we would play Suyash whenever there was a little turn in the track.

Chandrakanth Pandit (KKR coach): It's a good win and the way boys have shown character. Looking at the initial stage of the game, having lost too many wickets and then coming back. It's a good sign to bounce back and score 200+ runs. (Pitch) We expected it will help the spinners a bit. Obviously, you need enough runs on the board for that. I must congratulate Shardul and Rinku for the way they batted, and for the way they counter-attacked in that situation. The spinners too. Varun bowled very well, as did Sunny (Narine). And the new comer too, with Suyash. We have seen him in trial matches. We were happy with the way he was bowling, especially through the air. It's tough to pick him because he spins it both ways. He's shown very good attitude and fighting spirit from what I have observed.

Faf du Plessis (RCB captain): We had it pretty well set up there with 100-5 in 12 overs. To concede 200 from there, we lost it there. Shardul played unbelievably and it was difficult to stop him. He scored on both sides of the ground, so credit to him. It's obvious that their leg spinners got on top of us today. It was a good wicket. When Virat and myself played upfront, there didn't seem to be much in it. It's the nature of legspinner/mystery spinners. Once they get their tail up, they can put on the squeeze. Narine and Chakravarthy are excellent spinners and they put the squeeze on us. In games like these, you have to make sure you close the gap and score as many as you can to keep an eye on the net run rate. You have to make sure you keep improving on the things you have to work on. It's fair to say that. The game got away from us there today. (Death bowling) Tactically, we could have been better. It's an area we want to work on. Siraj is bowling well at the moment and Harshal is our death bowler. It's never the easiest job in the world but we have to make sure we get our plans together and work on that.

Dominance! Sheer dominance by the Knight Riders as they race away to their first win of the season. And in grand style too! They've entertained their home crowd and have snapped up a couple of points from the encounter, not to mention the massive boost that they will receive. After being in a spot of bother at 89/5 Shardul's heroics saved the game for KKR as they put 204 runs on the board.

Chasing this total was not going to be a mean task but RCB were expected to do well, considering how they had made a sheer mockery of the total set for them in the last game. They made a positive start to the chase, but wickets fell in clusters for them once their downfall started in the fifth over.

The batters were found to be completely clueless against the spinners, with the trio of Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and debutant Suyash Sharma wreaking havoc with the ball. A spectacular middle order collapse put them in a position of no return and from there on, only formalities remained.

Akash Deep and David Willey got in a few good hits at the end but all it would do was lower the impact on their net run rate. RCB have been found to be completely clueless against some quality mystery spin and will blame the lack of application by their batters. Their death bowling woes were on display too. Plenty for them to think about before their next game. As for KKR, this win will do their confidence a world of good and they will just look to make some minor adjustments ahead of their next fixture.

This time he's only skied it high in the night sky and Chakravarthy called for it right away, he simply had to because it was too far for Gurbaz. The bowler does superbly to make some ground and hold onto the catch. KKR win by 81 runs!
