9:24 PM local time, 1:54 AM IST: So that will be all from The Hundred today. We will come back with the action tomorrow, at 6:30 PM local time (11:00 PM IST) for yet another pulsating match, between Northern Superchargers and Welsh Fire at Headingley. For now, this is the pair of Meeth and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Tymal Mills (Player of the Match): We somehow managed to get ourselves into a position where we were just one hit away from a win. Credits to Manchester for bowling well for most part of the innings, but Overton brought out some big hits towards the end. It's always great to win such close games. We discussed to get our bat on the ball and look for singles. Wanted to take it deep and even managed to get a few boundaries at the end. Topley then brilliantly finished it off. This surface rewarded you if you hit the right lengths. We were initially a bit fuller in the powerplay but dragged out the length back later and that is what Manchester did too in the second innings.
We were happy with our score at the halfway stage and a win is really important to start things off. It's a 8-game tournament and these close wins are something you want to come on top.
9:16 PM local time, 1:46 AM IST: Southern Brave win by 1 wicket with 1 ball to spare!
Jason Roy 30 (22) | Tymal Mills - 3/22 Phil Salt 60 (41) | Scott Currie - 4/28
What a way to start off The Hundred in Manchester! It was a see-saw innings we had under lights, and right towards the end, the final two sets of five balls, sealed the deal for Southern Brave!
It was like a battle of tug of war, with both teams trying to pull the rope their way. The bowling from Manchester Originals was excellent, especially when it came to the lengths chosen. The bowling changes too were pretty impressive from Phil Salt.
Spin came on and slowed things down. Noor Ahmad was more than decent, but a couple of his sets of five deliveries went for a few too many. However, Scott Currie and Sonny Baker, till his final set of five balls, were the bowlers for the home side!
But just when it looked as though the sails were running out of the wind, Craig Overton got stuck into Baker in the second last set of five balls for the innings and gave the away side the much-needed push towards the target.
Finally, Reece Topley, the number 11 batter, found a way to score the winning runs and finish the job off!
James Anderson, on debut, was okay in his first three sets, but in the final one, Jason Roy spoiled his figures, big time!
Southern Brave get a win they will be proud of!
19.4 Lewis Gregory to Reece Topley, CUT AWAY FOR A FOUR AND REECE TOPLEY HAS WON IT FOR THE SOUTHERN BRAVE!
What an absolutely incredible finish to this game! Lewis Gregory bowls a clever off-pace delivery, a back-of-a-length ball just outside the off stump. But Reece Topley, with the heart of a lion, is ready for it. He waits and waits, and then with perfect timing, he cuts it away beautifully. The ball rockets through the gap at backward point and races to the boundary.
The Southern Brave dugout has erupted! The last man in, Reece Topley, has hit the winning runs and what a game this was!
Reece Topley batting at 11th position
So, the runs required are still 3 but the balls left are 2! Mills could not have struck it better, but could not have picked out the fielder any better!
Tymal Mills has been dismissed for 8 runs off 4 balls
19.3 Lewis Gregory to Tymal Mills, CHANCE IN THE DEEP AND TAKEN!!! Gregory, under immense pressure, bowls a good-length delivery on the off stump. Tymal Mills, looking to finish the game, tries to create room for himself. He goes for the cut shot, but he can't keep it down. The ball flies straight into the hands of the fielder at deep point, who takes a simple catch. A massive wicket at a crucial time!
The crowd is going wild! The Southern Brave need 3 from just 2 balls with a new batter at the crease. What an incredible finish this is going to be!
It is 3 runs to get off 3 balls.
19.2 Lewis Gregory to Craig Overton, back of a length slower one on the off. Overton mistimes the pull down to long on for one.
Oh, it is 4 runs needed off 4 balls now!
19.1 Lewis Gregory to Craig Overton, good length on the off. Overton wanted to cut it but inside edges it onto the pitch.
Lewis Gregory to bowl the final set of five balls.
So, all the Brave need is one hit. That is all that is required. They should be able to do it, but, you never know what happens under pressure, do you?
19.0
18.5 Sonny Baker to Tymal Mills, back of a length on the body, Mills wanted to pull it but gloves it to point for a single.
18.4 Sonny Baker to Craig Overton, one run! Slower bouncer on the body. Overton couldn't connect the pull and gloves it to long on for one.
Young Baker is losing the plot now.
18.3 Sonny Baker to Craig Overton, FOUR MORE!!! Good lenght on the pads, pulled away nicely in the gap at backward point for a boundary.
The only good thing about it from the Originals' point of view was no collision between the fielders. Otherwise, it was the last thing they needed!
