Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets!

The chase began in a brilliant manner for the Mumbai Indians as Trent Boult and James Pattinson bowled well in tandem as they picked up a wicket each in the first two overs. What followed was a gem of an knock by Ambati Rayudu, who acclimatised well to the conditions and garnered 71(48). He was supported well by Faf du Plessis, who scored a well made half-century and finished the game unbeaten on 58(43).

The MI spinners were just unable to stem the flow of runs and only Rahul Chahar picked up a wicket in his last over. They were taken to the cleaners all around the park and finished with economies with over 9. The full of Rayudu's wicket seemed to have brought MI back into the contest but a quick fire cameo of 18(6) by Sam Curran propelled CSK to a comfortable win in the end. Jasprit Bumrah was not at his best and was MI's most expensive bowler, as he conceded 43 runs from his 4 overs.

Mumbai Indians will rue the fact that they were unable to pick up wickets in the middle overs as Rayudu and du Plessis put up a stand of 115 runs for the third wicket, which took the game away form them completely. CSK will surely take a lot of positives from this game, while MI will need to sort out a few aspects before their next match-up. Well begun is half done and the Chennai outfit has done just that! MI's woes in their opening matches continue while MS Dhoni's masterstrokes manage to win them this match. Seems like some things never change!

Ambati Rayudu has been adjudged as the Man of the Match for his match-winning knock of 71(48) that steered CSK to a victory in this opening encounter. Rayudu was instrumental in taking his side over the line against their arch-rivals in this match after the loss of two quick wickets up front.
19.2 Trent Boult to Faf du Plessis, FOUR! THAT'S THAT THEN! Short delivery on off stump and Faf just sits deep in his crease before thumping it convincingly past mid wicket for a boundary! CSK WIN AGAINST MUMBAI INDIANS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2018!
19.1 Trent Boult to Faf du Plessis, FOUR! SHOT! Loose slower delivery on a length outside off stump. Faf has an almighty flash at it and blazes it over point for four
Jasprit Bumrah is entrusted to bowl the penultimate over and is taken to the cleaners off the very first ball itself by Sam Curran. A false shot by Curran and a brilliant catch by Pattinson breathes some life in this contest. However, Faf douses it rather quickly by whacking a boundary, while Dhoni plays out two dots. Just 5 runs remain to be chased off the final over! Trent Boult to bowl the final over! Can MI pull off a heist here?
Over: 19 | Summary: 6 W 4 1 0 0 Bowler: Jasprit Bumrah Score: 158/5
18.6 Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni, back of a length delivery that hurries onto Dhoni. He camps deep in his crease and jabs it towards short mid wicket. Dot to end the over!
18.5 Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni, OUT! THAT'S SOME ANTI CLIMAX! Banged into the track down the leg side and Dhoni has a huge swing at it. He seems to get a feather through to the keeper and the umpire agrees! Dhoni reviews immediately though!

Ultra Edge returns with no spike whatsoever and Dhoni stays! Dhoni Review System anybody?
18.4 Jasprit Bumrah to Faf du Plessis, back of a length delivery on off stump. Faf gives himself room and scuffs his back foot punch to covers for one. Right then! MS Dhoni is now on strike, for the first time in 437 days! Faf du Plessis reaches his half-century with that one! What a knock this has been from the Protea under pressure!
18.3 Jasprit Bumrah to Faf du Plessis, FOUR MORE! Slower delivery that is just too short and wide! Faf camps on the back foot and then hammers it over extra cover for another boundary! That is clobbered through the covers! What a brilliant shot! Just 6 runs required now!
18.2 Jasprit Bumrah to Sam Curran, OUT! IS THERE A TWIST IN THE TALE? SLower delivery on a length on middle stump and Curran looks to mix a bit of inventiveness with his power! He tries for the paddle over fine leg but the lack of pace means he can't get enough distance. Pattinson runs back from short fine leg and completes a superb catch!

MS Dhoni finally walks out to bat!
18.1 Jasprit Bumrah to Sam Curran, BOOOOM BOOOM AGAIN! CURRAN IS THE MAN! Slower delivery on a back of a length on middle stump and Curran absolutely smokes it over cow corner for another maximum! WOW! That is sensational hitting from the young man! Took on one of the best bowler in the world and whacked him into the stands!
Krunal Pandya is brought back into the attack and picks up a wicket off his first ball as he sends Jadeja packing! Sam Curran comes in ahead of Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni to maintain the left-right combination and the move pays rich dividends as he smacks a maximum followed by a boundary off the very next! 16 runs needed off the last 2 overs. Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the penultimate over!
Over: 18 | Summary: W 1 1 6 4 1 Bowler: Krunal Pandya Score: 147/4
17.6 Krunal Pandya to Sam Curran, low full toss on leg stump and Curran carts that one straight to the man at deep mid wicket for a single. An excellent over comes to an end!
17.5 Krunal Pandya to Sam Curran, FOUR! CURRAN, YOU BEAUTY! Krunal drops that one well short and too wide off off stump as well. Curran gives himself room and absolutely clobbers it over covers for four. That is a brilliant hit! The move to promote him up the order has done the trick!
17.4 Krunal Pandya to Sam Curran, BOOOOMMMM!!! SIX! CURRAN TO THE FORE! Low full toss on leg stump and Curran absolutely smokes it over cow corner for a magnificent maximum! Top shot under pressure! A nothing delivery by Krunal! Full toss on the sticks and Curran had no problems dispatching that!
17.3 Krunal Pandya to Faf du Plessis, yorker right on the pads. Faf clears his front leg and then squirts it away to square leg for a single, SIngles won't help now
17.2 Krunal Pandya to Sam Curran, sharp full delivery outside off stump. He jams his bat down and gets it to long off for a single to get off the mark
17.1 Krunal Pandya to Ravindra Jadeja, OUT! THAT'S DEAD! Darted into the stumps on a full length and Jadeja has to go! He looks to force it through the leg side but ends up playing all around it. He is hit right in front and the umpire has no qualms in raising his finger. Jadeja was looking to flick that into the leg side but cannot get bat on ball! The umpire has no hesitation in adjudging that as out!

Still no signs of Dhoni or Jadhav as Sam Curran walks in to bat.
