The second semi-final between India and England takes place in Adelaide tomorrow. If India wins that one, we'll be all set for Round Two of India vs Pakistan at the MCG for the second time in less than a month. That sure would be something, won't it? England aren't going to be pushovers though and if there's anything this tournament has thought us, it's that no team can be discounted. Well then, on that note, this is Pratyush Rohra, signing off on behalf of my partner, Shashwat Kumar. Goodbye and take care!
Well then. Call it Pakistan summed up or Kudrat ka Nizam, the Men in Green have made it into a World Cup final, ending a 13-year wait. They were runners-up in 2007, winners in 2009, and are back with a chance to get their hands on the trophy again. The celebrations tell a story of their own. Are they going to pull off what they did in 1992 and win the ultimate prize? Time will tell. For now, they can celebrate this result as they wait to see if it will be India or England joining them in Melbourne.
Babar Azam (Pakistan captain): The team performed really well in the last few games. A special thanks to the crowd. We are feeling like we're playing at home with everyone supporting us. We had a good start in the first six overs. The ball wasn't coming onto the bat later on and our spinners gave us control in the middle with the pacers doing well to restrict them to 150 in the end. (Batting intent) We had planned that before going in that we have to make the most of the six overs. It's good for us if we can do that, so everyone can come and chip in after that. He's (Mohammad Haris) a young guy who is showing his aggression. As a batsman, I'm hoping he can keep this on and do well. We have to enjoy this moment but at the same time, we want to focus on the finals. We will enjoy tomorrow but we will have to have more discussions after that.
Kane Williamson (New Zealand captain): We were put under pressure early. Pakistan bowled nicely but we managed to wrestle back. At the halfway stage, we were feeling like it was a competitive total. They (Pakistan) were outstanding and we were outplayed today. It's a tough pill for us to swallow in a number of areas. Fielding was okay. Babar and Rizwan at the top of the order were under pressure but we let them get away. We wanted to be more disciplined with our areas. Having said that, there are always different parts of the game where you have to do better. There's been a lot of good cricket throughout the round-robin stages. It's given us a chance to go deep in the tournament but we weren't at our best today. We know the fickle nature of T20 cricket.
Mohammad Rizwan: Me and Babar were struggling at the start. But we still continued to work hard and we believed in ourselves. Every player has gone through this stage. (Powerplay tactics) Obviously when we crossed the boundary line, me and Babar decided. 150 is a good target on this pitch and when we finished the powerplay, one of us wanted to bat deep. (on what it means to be in the final) Our start was not good. But the guys are working hard and what the Almighty wants from us to do hard work and believe in Almighty.
Pakistan cricket summed up. As Nasser Hussain famously said, "One minute down, next minute up". They were down. They were on the verge of being out of this tournament after losing their first two games but look what they've gone and done since. They've won four games on the trot since then, becoming the first side to book their slot in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. Dil Dil Pakistan blares from the speakers again as players embrace each other. It was a clinical performance from them all around.
It was the bowlers who set the tone on a difficult surface, restricting New Zealand to 152/4 in the first innings. Shaheen Afridi was the spearhead of this bowling unit but it was a team effort in terms of containing the opposition. Contributions from Wasim, Nawaz and Shadab were notable ones as well. Do not disregard their fielding, which was top-notch and helped them set the tone in the middle.
With the bat, it was a two-man show. Babar Azam ended his ordinary streak with the bat, as did his partner-in-crime, Mohammad Rizwan. The pair recorded another century stand, becoming the only pairing to score three-century stands in the T20 World Cup. That set the platform for the rest of the side to get over the finish line rather comfortably, courtesy of some fireworks from Haris in the end.
New Zealand have themselves to blame for this loss. Babar was dropped on the first ball he faced, while their discipline with the ball and in the field was far below their usual standards too. It's another disappointing result for them in a game where everything was on the line. Plenty to unravel in this one but before we get to the presentations, the Pakistan players are completing a lap of honor to appreciate the crowd for their support, which was on a different level tonight. They made it feel like it was Karachi, not Sydney! Anyway, stick around for the presentations.
Pakistan have done it! Pakistan are through to the finals of the T20 World Cup. It's the first time in 13 years they have made a World Cup final and the party will go long into the night as far as their fans are concerned. They're only one win away from the ultimate prize.
19.1 Tim Southee to Shan Masood, PAKISTAN ARE IN THE FINAL! Length delivery just outside off stump. Masood presses half forward and calmly pushes it back past the bowler to send thousands of Pakistan fans into absolute delirium at the SCG! What a performance this has been! What a turnaround this has been! From being down and out on Saturday to becoming the first side to qualify for the final! If anything explains Pakistan cricket, this is probably it!
19.1 Tim Southee to Shan Masood, length delivery that slides down the leg side. Masood does not get bat on it as the umpire stretches out his arms and signals a wide. Scores level!
Deep square leg and long-on are out. Southee comes around the wicket.
Iftikhar Ahmed, RHB, comes to the crease
Tim Southee [3.0-0-23-0] is back into the attack
An anti-climatic end to Haris' innings. Watch out for this lad though. He could be a handful in the final. Dil Dil Pakistan is reverberating around the SCG now, which is a sight to behold. Pakistan are almost there.

18.6 Mitchell Santner to Mohammad Haris, OUT! A BIT OF AN ANTI CLIMAX! Length delivery outside off stump that sticks in the surface a little and bounces a tad extra. Haris shuffles across and tries to sweep it over short fine leg but only ends up offering a regulation catch to Finn Allen! Surely Pakistan are not going to botch this? Mohammad Haris c Finn Allen b Mitchell Santner 30 (26b, 2x4, 1x6)
Devon Conway's wicketkeeping today will certainly be a talking point after this game. He has been sloppy, to say the least.
18.5 Mitchell Santner to Shan Masood, OH! Back of a length delivery on leg stump that spins back sharply. Masood is cut in half and the keeper can't gather either. Three byes added to Pakistan's total!
18.4 Mitchell Santner to Mohammad Haris, looped up on a length outside off stump. Haris throws his hands at it and punches the ball towards deep cover point for a single
18.3 Mitchell Santner to Shan Masood, slower delivery on a length on middle and leg stump. Masood backs away and cuts it towards deep cover point for one more run
18.2 Mitchell Santner to Mohammad Haris, DROPPED AGAIN! Flighted on a length outside off stump. Haris goes for the reverse sweep but splices it a little towards short third man, where Sodhi puts it down
