Commentary

With a triple-header in store, quite a few anticipated some drama to be on display today. However, no one, absolutely no one saw this coming. It was an eventful outing with the doubleheader at the Adelaide Oval but there's still another game to go on this Super Sunday. The top spot is still up for grabs for India as they take on Zimbabwe at the MCG in Melbourne. You can just switch tabs to catch all the action from that game. Right then. First things first. Pakistan fans, make sure you buy your Dutch friends some drinks and gifts. It was that result in the first game that set up this game as a knockout clash and in the most typical of ways, Pakistan have somehow managed to sneak in to nail down their semi-final spot. Of course, they've returned a part of the favor too. Courtesy of this result, the Netherlands finish above Bangladesh and confirm their spot in the first round of next year's T20 World Cup with automatic qualification. That's a massive step in the right direction for them as well.

Babar Azam (Pakistan captain): To be honest, it was a team game. Cricket is a funny game. We believed we could do it. We've played with that belief in all matches and will do the same in the next match. It wasn't the easiest wickets to bat on. Rizwan and I wanted to take our time and get the team over the line. That didn't happen but pleased with the way (Mohammad) Haris played. Looking forward to the semi-finals. The entire team is very excited to play in the next round.

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh captain): Of course, at the half-way stage we were 70-2, we wanted to get to 145 and that was a reasonable total, even in the first game, the second half was difficult and we knew it would've been difficult, especially for the new batters and was important the set batters to carry on which didn't happen. In terms of result, this was the best we've had but we could've done better, new guys coming in and lots of changes, this is the least we could've expected. I'll try to play for Bangladesh as long as possible but depends on my fitness.

Shaheen Shah Afridi has been adjudged the Player of the Match for his marvellous spell of bowling (4-0-22-4)! Here's what he has to say: Happy that we've qualified to semi-finals, it's not easy to come back from injury and bowl 140 plus. We are all happy, we've played good cricket in the last few games, kept it simple and bowled fast. Team needed that, I managed to do well. All smiles, handshakes and hugs all around for Pakistan as they clinch their spot in the semi-finals. After losing to India and Zimbabwe in the first two games, not many gave the team a chance to make it to the next round. Not even their own fans. However, once the Dutch topped South Africa this morning, it was the only push Pakistan needed to go and get the job done.

The bowlers were at the forefront of this win with Shaheen Afridi leading the way, making his way back into the wickets with his best figures in T20Is. His four wickets set the tone and restricted Bangladesh to a miserly total which was chased down in a comprehensive fashion in the end.

Mohammad Rizwan was dropped in the first over of the second innings itself and that as it turns out, proved to be a massive moment in the game. Bangladesh did well to keep strangling the Pakistan batters in the middle but weren't able to create enough wicket-taking opportunities to pile on the pressure, which was the need of the hour.

The pair of Babar and Rizwan ensured that the required run rate never went above 8, so even when Pakistan were under the cosh a bit, they weren't too far behind in the game. All they needed from there on was a cameo, which was delivered by Mohammad Haris as he blitzed his way to 31 off 18 balls to diminish any hopes of a Bangladesh win.

Shan Masood played his party despite being pushed down the order and was the perfect man in the middle to get his side over the line. Bangladesh delivered a commendable effort with the ball but never really had enough runs to play with. Their fielding didn't help them either, which will frustrate them a little bit.

It was an emotional roller coaster after the result of the first game. Let's see what the captains have to say about this crazy super Sunday and this game.

18.1 Ebadot Hossain to Shan Masood, PAKISTAN ARE THROUGH TO THE SEMIS! Heartbreak for Bangladesh, they themselves have to blame as they've been sloppy in this game in all three departments. Full on the pads, clipped it behind square, fielder had to gather and they sprint back for the brace and it's all over for Bangladesh.
