That will be all from tonight's game but it's a biggie tomorrow. A real big one for both Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals. Of course, the former aren't playing, but their hopes hinge on the Mumbai Indians defeating the latter if they are to make the playoffs. One spot is up for grabs and the Capitals need to win in order to make it their own. Should they lose, it will be Faf du Plessis' RCB that will go on to play the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator. A stellar show from Ravichandran Ashwin. He's put in all the hard yards behind the scenes has the 'cricket scientist'. And he keeps evolving and going from strength to strength. Let's not forget his bowling amidst his batting heroics - it was the choke applied by him that threw the Chennai Super Kings off tracks and ensured that they were restricted to a below-par total. The Rajasthan Royals made a golden signing ahead of the auction and well, Ashwin has come up trumps with both bat and ball. He'll be itching to do more of the same in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday (May 27) as the Royals face the Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata for a spot in the summit clash.

As for CSK, the curtains have come down on a sorry campaign. They came in as defending champions but started with four losses on the trot, before ending with three of them on the bounce. It was a bumpy ride all along that saw the captaincy hat swapped back to MS Dhoni after Ravindra Jadeja was handed the reins. They do have some positives to take away of course, namely their young and raw bowlers as well as Devon Conway. You'd think they'll have to be very busy in the off-season and explore a few trades perhaps to beef up a lopsided unit ahead of IPL 2023.

Ravichandran Ashwin is the Player of the Match for his stunning unbeaten 40 off 23 deliveries and his spell of 1/28 off 4 overs.

Hear from the man himself: (How does it feel?) A million dollars (grins). Honestly quite a special day for us. It was very important we won the game tonight and get two bites at the cherry at the back half of the tournament. Been quite a good tournament but that's a nice finish to the round robin games. Well before the season the communication was pretty clear on what I needed to work on. There were obviously areas I could work on - I'm not blessed with a lot of power and I had to work on a lot of stuff. Before getting into the tournament the management was very clear. I opened in a lot of practice games and tried it back home as well. They did tell me they will use me in the Powerplay. Finishing is one role they didn't tell me but I'm glad it came off well today. (On his bowling) Only 4 overs (laughs), I'll settle for 1/28. I'm someone who loves chasing wickets but if you keep chasing wickets it's not for the right cause of the team. I've been clearly told that I need to bowl the good areas and make the batters take risks. Clearly on some occasions the batters don't take enough risks so my job is to just bowl for the other end. I've put a lot of work on my batting. I've always felt that I've understood the ebbs and flows of the game really well. It was the fact that my power wasn't good enough to take it over the boundary. A lot of credit should go to Rajamani (the strength and conditioning coach) and Zubin (Bharucha). They've given me the right sort of freedom and encouragement in the nets and I'm glad it came off. Wonderful (to go through to the playoffs). I certainly believe that wherever I get picked I must turn out and play my A-game for the franchise. It's a mark of respect for the franchise that you can give. I've always had this notion that wherever I go the team must do well and qualify and do well and win the tournament. I'm glad we've made the playoffs yet again and am super pleased. (On his celebrations towards the end) I just brought out the David Warner inside me (laughs).

Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals Captain): Feels really good with the way we've played in the league phase. Almost everyone has stood up throughout and we deserve this second shot for the finals. They started well and it was hard to stop Moeen Ali. It was okay to go for runs but we knew that we could come back stronger. I didn't expect us to come back that well though. To give away just 75 in the last 14 was an excellent effort. I wanted to bring him once the Powerplay was over where he is confident to bowl. It's important to give the players the phases where they're comfortable to bowl and he came up really well. The wicket was stopping and they had quality bowlers bowling in the middle. The way Ash bhai has been batting, I want to tell you that before the season started the amount of hours he batted in the nets, we were expecting something special from him. He's turned into a great all-rounder for us and we're really happy for him.

MS Dhoni: What we need to realize is that we are playing a batter light. Once we lost those quick wickets, Moeen had to change his momentum. If one of the batters had batted with him, he could have continued his momentum. It gives liberty to the batter coming in to play the shots or play the game. The roles and responsibilities got slightly lost when we lost those quick wickets and that made it really difficult. If we would have gone hard and lost a wicket there, we might have not had anything to defend tonight. We were 10-15 runs short but of course, you have to bowl well after that. If their openers get going and get too many in the first six, 180 is also not enough. Whatever the par score is, the first six overs are crucial, especially on good wickets. (On the youngsters) Whatever games they have got, they have learnt a lot out of it. One of the biggest examples is Mukesh, who has played all games. How he's improved from the first to the last game has been pleasing. He'll go back and learn from his outings and that's what we want. Once the player has got that experience, they won't be starting from scratch when they turn up next year. It's important to remember what happened and develop from what happens in the IPL. Most of them have made the most of the chance they have got. Our Malinga is really good. It's difficult to pick him and I think he will contribute big for us in the next year. We have done well in patches and it's important to keep doing well as a team. The crucial thing is to make the most out of the opportunity when you are set, whether you are a batter or a bowler and keep learning. It's not a one-year tournament. You keep coming back year after year. So once you keep learning and once you mature, that's when you capitalize and be a big IPL player for the next 10-12 years. That's what you need from youngsters.

After a topsy-turvy contest, it is clear now that Qualifier 1 will see Gujarat Titans take on Rajasthan Royals in Kolkata. Lucknow Super Giants will feel disappointed, but they will await either Royal Challengers Bangalore or Delhi Capitals in the Eliminator.

But back to this chase and well, it should have been a canter. Even with Jos Buttler being prized out in just the second over. Even with the spinners finding enough hold in the surface. Especially with Shimron Hetmyer back in the side as well. But the Super Kings made a game out of it owing to their spinners and despite Yashasvi Jaiswal getting off to a flyer in the Powerplay, things slowed down considerably in the middle-overs.

Jaiswal did well to rotate strike and notch up a half-century, but the wickets of Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal threw a spanner into the works of the chase. More so, with both combining for 18 off 29 deliveries. The asking rate mounted and it was an interesting counter-ploy that the Royals adopted, sending Ravichandran Ashwin up the order.

And the man delivered alright. He stepped out and pumped Moeen Ali over the mid-wicket fence, but still had a task and a half on hand. More so, with the wickets of Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer at the other end as a brave Prashant Solanki gave it a lot of loop to bring about their undoing.

It was another flighted leg-break from Solanki that was slog-swept over the fence by Ashwin though and thereafter, the inexperienced duo of Matheesha Pathirana and Mukesh Choudhary couldn't finish the job for CSK. Mind you, it was a pretty big deal that they made a match out of a below par total in the first place and boy, didn't they give the Royals a scare. But why fear when 'Ashwin Anna' is here? He ensured the job was done and was visibly pumped towards the end of it, as the Royals scraped through to seal the top-two spot.
