Commentary

The celebrations have begun in the South African camp. What a way for QDK to end his ODI career in South African soil. What a turnaround after going down 0-2. They win the series 3-2 and will be very confident going into the World Cup. Like always, it was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage from this encounter. Till the next time, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Bala.

Temba Bavuma (South Africa captain): Yeah I think looking at the way the series started, they put us under pressure. We felt that it was the personality of the team coming in after the first 2 ODIs. Lots of confidence to take from the series Even if we have our backs to the wall we can comeback. There were several heroes for us in the series. Good to get some momentum ahead of the World Cup. From the 3rd game onward we continued getting better. I think that strengthens the whole attribute of us as strong individuals. I think the confidence we gain from this series is something we won’t lose. This is the best space when can be at. The bowlers also said that this is the best preparation they could have got. I think for me, its about the belief in every single individual.

Aiden Markram has been adjudged as the Player of the Series. Here is what he had to say: Yeah it's a weird one. It have been doing nicely in the last 12-18 months. We have been playing a good brand of cricket and thankful it came off in the series. You stll try to balance the positive mindset, You have to take responsibility. After each game, you take the experiences. Hopefully, the longer we keep playing, we get a better blue print. Its all about contributing and fortunately I managed to contribute in the last two overs. The ideal world not but if its spinning I will like to do a job. That is a work in progress even from the training point of view.

Mitchell Marsh (captain, Australia): Certainly a missed opportunity. Few guys going down is certainly, also have to manage (the workload) for the World Cup. Ultimately, we fell short with the bat. Needed few partnerships. South Africa got over the line. We will have to sit down and think through. We have a ODI on Friday in India. We have some guys coming back in. We lost our way a little bit. We would have liked to have partnerships that got us over the line. Out bowlers lacked the ability to take wickets at the top. And we were under the pump towards the back-end. Hats off to SA, batted really well. We weren't able to chase those big scores. Big World Cup in front of us, looking forward to it. (Experience of captaining) Maybe a few more grey hairs. Patrick's out, standing for him is a huge honour.

Marco Jansen (Player of the Match): There's not a lot of occasions where you can cash in with both bat and ball. It is quite fulfilling. These types of performances, certainly boosts your confidence. Just trying to play like this more often, but it's not easy. The batting, I don't often get the chance to bat a lot. Was quite enjoying the batting today. (On the World Cup) It's different conditions, it's important for me and the team to adapt to the conditions, and yes, just express ourselves.

It's all over as South Africa register an emphatic 122 run victory to take the series 3-2. They were clinical in the series decider. That has been some turnaround. Marco Jansen was the man of the hour for the Proteas as he made a significant all-round contribution to take their side over the finish line. The crowd had come to support the Proteas and they have been thoroughly entertained. Again a collapse for Australia and they surely need to sit down and have a few harsh talks ahead of the quadrennial event in India which is slated to start in about 16 days time.

That turned out to be a rather comprehensive victory for the Proteas as they made a dramatic turnaround from being 0-2 and went on onto win the series 3-2. A commendable performance and Temba Bavuma would be delighted with their performance just with the World Cup approaching. Australia on the other hand have a lot to ponder on, especially with the middle order collapsing like a pack of cards.

Even during the matches they won, Australia lost wickets in clusters and that would be a big worry for them going in the World Cup. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh came out with a positive intent in pursuit of the victory target of 316. They raced off to 34 in the first 3 overs but it was Marco Jansen who turned things around with the wickets of Warner and Josh Inglis in one over.

The ship was resurrected by Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne. They were cruising along at one stage. Marsh looked in complete command of proceedings and smashed some lusty blows en route to his knock of 71. From 124/2, they kept losing wickets in clusters and there was no looking back for them.

Marco Jansen came back and broke the backbone of Australia with the wickets of Marsh and Labuschagne. He finished with exceptional figures of 5/39. Keshav Maharaj bowled beautifully and bagged 4 crucial wickets as the Australians capitulated to 193 to hand South Africa a massive win.

My word, what a shot from Nathan Ellis to end the over. A dismissive swipe across the line before Zampa pumped one past the mid off fielder. The two tail enders are having some fun here but that won't be in a winning cause.
