MATCH SUMMARY:
Zimbabwe - 296/9 in their 50 overs, batting first; Sean Williams 100 (87)
Sri Lanka - 300/5 in 48.3 overs, batting second; Pathum Nissanka  75 (71)
Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets and lead the 3-match ODI series 1-0.
Man of the Match: Dinesh Chandimal - 75 (91) (4x4, 1x6)

It was a brilliant display of batting from Sri Lanka as Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka & Man of the Match Dinesh Chandimal shone like bright stars with the bat! The way the Sri Lankan batters played the short-pitched ball was exemplary! The cuts, the punches & the pulls were decisive! A solid 100-run partnership between Dinesh Chandimal & Charith Asalanka made the work easy for the hosts.

For Zimbabwe, the bowling was flat. There were a few sparks of good line & length bowling but on the whole, they would be disappointed with their lengths in particular. Richard Ngarava picked up 3 wickets while Sikandar Raza & Blessing Muzarabani were the other wicket takers with one wicket a piece.

Earlier, Zimbabwe were very impressive with the bat. They batted well to get to 296, courtesy a 76-ball 100 from veteran left-hander Sean Williams & a well made 72 off 81 balls by Regis Chakabva. But at the post-match presentation, Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine did mention that they were about 20 to 30 runs short on that wicket.

All in all, both batting sides will be happy with their efforts, Sri Lanka more so. But the bowling from both attacks need improvement. For Sri Lanka, Chamika Karunaratne picked up 3 wickets but barring Maheesh Theekshana, who was wicket-less but very economical, gave away runs a tad too many for their liking.

So there we have it friends, from the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, it was a pleasure bringing the live action to you! Along with Pradeep Somashekar & me, Bidipto, it's good bye for now! Keep following Sportskeeda for more cricketing action!

Time for the presentations!

Dinesh Chandimal has been adjudged the Player of the match for his measured innings!

Chandimal
says, I'm over the moon about my performance tonight, could've finished the game myself but didn't happen. Gone through lots of ups and downs in my cricket career but I did my practice well and kept my fitness well and have done that well, thanks for the trainers with all the hard work they've put in and the performance is showing. I tried to be the old Chandimal and I couldn't find the rhythm in the last few years, I think I've got my rhythm back and will try contribute as much as I can in the matches to come!

Craig Ervine, Zimbabwe captain: We were 20-30 runs short with the bat but were not consistent with our lengths. Hope to rectify that in the next match.

Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka captain: Really pleased with our batting effort & a big thanks to the crowd for turning up in numbers. Our bench strength is strong & we hope to test it out in the coming matches.
Sri Lanka win by 5 wickets!
48.4 Blessing Muzarabani to Chamika Karunaratne, FOUR! THAT'S IT, SRI LANKA WIN! It's called a front-foot no-ball as well as Muzarabani has overstepped. Short delivery on the off-stump, Karunaratne moves across the off-stump, pulls that one away and beats the fine-leg fielder to his left and Sri Lanka go one up in the series!
48.3 Blessing Muzarabani to Dasun Shanaka, short on the leg-stump line from around the wicket, Shanaka pulls that one in front of square and gets another single. Just 2 needed now!
48.2 Blessing Muzarabani to Chamika Karunaratne, back of a length into Karunaratne on the middle and leg, stays on the backfoot, drops it into the on-side, hares across for a tight single.
48.1 Blessing Muzarabani to Dasun Shanaka, back of a length into Shanaka on the middle and leg as he stays back, tucks it down to fine-leg for an easy single.

Just 5 needed now as Asalanka goes, 3 wickets to Ngarava now.
Blessing Muzarabani [9.0-0-50 -1]comes back to bowl.
47.6 Richard Ngarava to Charith Asalanka, OUT! HUGE SHOUT FOR LBW AND UP GOES THE FINGER! Asalanka reviews it though! Back of a length delivery tails into Asalanka on the off-stump, gets stuck inside the crease and looks to play across the line and misses, raps on the pad and looks a goner there!

UltraEdge confirms there is no bat involved. Ball tracking has Impact as Umpire's call and that means Asalanka has to walk back, it has been a splendid inning from him and just couldn't take his team over the line tonight!

Charith Asalanka lbw b Ngarava 71 (68) (6x4, 2x6)
47.5 Richard Ngarava to Charith Asalanka, SIX! BOOM! Stunning hit from Asalanka, just goes to show what a player he is, really packs a punch. Back of a length tails into Asalanka and he nonchalantly CLOBBERS It flat over deep backward square-leg fence for a maximum!
47.4 Richard Ngarava to Dasun Shanaka, back of a length on the off-stump line, Shanaka on the backfoot, drops it into the off-side and hares across for a sharp single.
47.3 Richard Ngarava to Dasun Shanaka, short on the off-stump, Shanaka goes to pull but gets big on him, he mistimes that one down to mid-off in the end.
47.2 Richard Ngarava to Dasun Shanaka, OH! Back of a length angling away on the outside off, Shanaka trying something different, comes forward and looks to ramp it over but misses it.
47.1 Richard Ngarava to Dasun Shanaka, length delivery on the outside off, Shanaka drives it but finds the cover fielder for no run.
The batting side is milking the bowling towards the target! Just 12 required now off 18 balls!

46.5 Tendai Chatara to Charith Asalanka, searching for the yorker on the outside off, Asalanka jams his bat to it, squirts it down to long-off for an easy single.
46.4 Tendai Chatara to Dasun Shanaka, short on the off-stump, Shanaka moves across the off-stump, pulls it along the ground, through to deep square-leg fielder for a single.
