Although the Steelpan Strikers experienced their first loss of the tournament today, they have a game in hand in comparison to the rest of the teams. Their net run rate is quite healthy as well, so all is certainly not lost for them. They will regroup and face off against the Soca Kings tomorrow.
As for the Scorchers, this victory will be akin to a breath of fresh air for them. Although it is early days, they badly needed a win to inject some life into their campaign. To do so without the services of Kieron Pollard will give them a lot more confidence. They play again in another 24 hours, the Blue Devils being their opponents.

Chasing 133, the Steelpan Strikers lost Adrian Ali first ball to a jaw-dropping catch from Jabran Mills. Mark Deyal soon followed, and the task of guiding his team home fell immensely on West Indies international, Evin Lewis. Three overs into the innings, there was a feeling that that would be a possibility, but then a searing full-length in-swinging delivery from Kieshawn Dillon trapped Lewis in front, and from then on, the game slipped out of the Steelpan Strikers' hands. No one from the middle-order got going as wickets fell at regular intervals, as they crawled to a total of 89. Anthony Alexander provided some fireworks at the end, but it proved to be redundant in the context of the game.

Put in to bat, the Scarlet Ibis Scorchers got off to a great start, courtesy of their opening pair of Tion Webster and Nicholas Sookdeosingh. It was Tion Webster, the stand-in captain who got them off to a flier, having negotiated a tight first over from Mark Deyal. A few tight overs were bowled in between, particularly by Uthman Muhammad, who used the wicket and the change of pace to great effect. It was in the 6th over when Webster cut loose, taking Anthony Alexander for 21 out off the 24 off the over, bringing up his fifty in the process. Nicholas Sookdeosingh, who was playing second fiddle earlier on, then got into the act, smashing Imran Khan for a couple of sixes the following over. With three overs remaining, it seemed like a score of 150 was on the cards, but the Steelpan Strikers bowlers did very well at the death. With Mark Deyal getting the first breakthrough of the innings, that of the menacing Tion Webster, and then followed it up with the wicket of Nicholson next ball, it seemed like the flow of runs might just have stagnated. But Daniel Williams then hit three boundaries, and in the end, a 7-run last over from Jahron Alfred meant that the Scorchers got to 132.

So, the Scarlet Ibis Scorchers are off the mark in terms of points! It took them 4 games to do so, but they have finally broken the duck, and how! A 43-run victory over the Steelpan Strikers, who never really looked to make major inroads throughout the game today. Adding the fact that the Scorchers did not have the services of their regular skipper, Kieron Pollard today makes their victory seem a lot more spectacular!
