Commentary

So that brings us to the end of this game. West Indies have played brilliantly and have taken a 2-0 lead in the series with three game to go. This is Probuddha Bhattacharjee signing off from this game on behalf of my co-commentator Pragadeesh.

Rovman Powell (West Indies Captain): The way we came back while batting was pleasing to see. The discussion was very simple, just to take the game out of their reach as much as possible. They had been doing a good job. We tried to cash in. I think I try to lead from the front. I try and take the added responsibility to do well. I think when you look at the squad, everyone deserves a place in the playing XI. But when a guy misses out, they don't feel bad, they are all part of the unit. Yeah Motie was excellent today. And of course the crowd here at Grenada has been really good.

Jos Buttler (England Captain): Yeah I think a few many than we could have restricted them to. A couple of big overs towards the end took the game away from us. Although losing a game by 10 runs is disheartening. We could have found plenty of ways to find those 10 runs. Sam played a brilliant knock. By the way, Motie bowled a brilliant spell giving away just nine runs. But Sam batted brilliantly and took the game deep for us. Yeah, Rehan and Adil are two different type of spinners and that variety gives us an advantage in the middle-overs.

Brandon King is the Player of the Match and here is what he has to say - Yeah, it was important that you know, having lost so many early wickets. I stayed deep as possible into the innings. If you lose early wickets you don't know how to play it, so the objective worked well for me. I have a consistent approach over the past few years. You train hard to try and add certain aspects to your T20 game especially, and it's been working on the field for me

West Indies were invited to bat first by Jos Buttler. Courtesy of Brandon King’s 82* from 52 deliveries and Rovman Powell’s 50 off 28, they posted a total of 176 for 7 in their 20 overs.

In the chase, England lost Jos Buttler pretty early. But Salt and Jacks steadied the ship after this while not letting the scoring rate drop too much. At the end of the powerplay, England had 51 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket. The platform for the chase was well laid by the duo.

But after this England lost a bit of momentum much like West Indies while they were batting. At the halfway stage of the second innings, England were stationed at 72 for three requiring 105 runs off 60 balls. The role of someone like Liam Livingstone or Moeen Ali became very important at this juncture.

But Livingstone succumbed under the scoreboard pressure even after getting a good start. After this the West Indian bowlers bowled as per the conditions and kept the scoring rate in check. At the end of the 15th over, England had 110 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets. They needed 67 runs to win off the last five overs. With Sam Curran and Moeen Ali in the crease, and Chris Woakes still to come it was not impossible. But the nature of the wicket and the way the West Indian bowlers were executing their plan, it looked like a difficult task.

Curran played a brilliant knock of 50 runs from 32 balls before being dismissed by Alzarri Joseph. After his departure, England depended on Moeen Ali to bail out. And he tried his best scoring 22 runs from 13 balls. But it was not enough as England managed to score 166 for the loss of seven wickets at the end of their 20 overs losing the game by 10 runs.

Although Alzarri Joseph had the best figures from West Indies with three wickets to his name. Gudakesh Motie deserves a special mention, as it was his spell of 9 for 1 from 4 overs that gave the hosts an advantage in the game. With this win, West Indies have taken a 2-0 lead in the series, with three games to go.

Brilliant over by Holder. He bowled according to the field and executed the plans correctly. He was also rewarded with a wicket and the target was nearly taken out of England's reach after that over. A couple of deliveries will ensure that West Indies take a 2-0 lead in the series.
