Some muscular blows from David Wiese towards the end but it turned out to be too little too late but he will surely get some confidence going into the coming games. The target of 218 was always going to be a tall order for Yorkshire hence they needed a blistering start to get anywhere close to the victory target.

The start was a magical one for Durham as Adam Lyth blazed his way in the powerplay, smashing 18 runs from the first over and carrying it on in the next over as well. Dawid Malan kept the run chase going with some beautiful pickup shots but couldn’t quite continue the charge and was dismissed soon after.

Ben Raine bowled brilliantly in the middle overs, not allowing the batters to get away as the required rate kept climbing at an alarming rate. Jonathan Tattersall looked in good touch but a score of 39 in 33 deliveries during a 218-run chase isn’t good enough and that hurt Yorkshire.

Despite some late-order hitting from Wiese, it was a mountain too tall to climb. Raine took 3 wickets and was the most successful among the Durham bowlers while Tattersall was the top scorer but couldn’t quite make it an impactful knock.

That looked like a helicopter shot but that will be too little too late and the result is a foregone conclusion. 45 more required off the final over. This has been a superb effort from the Durham bowlers especially after the carnage early on.
