It was a forgettable day for India in Shooting. After plenty of medals in the first six days, India ended day seven without a medal. In the Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, India's Shivam Shukla and Anish Bhanwala did not even qualify for the final.
In the Men's and Women's Skeet Qualification, India had a mixed bag. While the two men shot well, they are joint-ninth while the two women shooters are joint-eighth despite shooting just 68/75. In the last two shooting events of the Asian Games tomorrow, India will be hoping for a change of fortunes. Join us again on Sunday for day 8 to see if India can end with a medal or two. Until then, goodbye.
That is not a bad score at all but two shooters haven't missed yet and a few others have barely missed, which is why the Indian duo are joint-ninth in the standings with three other shooters.
Courtesy of that result, India will have no medals in shooting on day 7. Both the Men's and Women's Skeet are Qualification with the medal round to be held on Sunday (August 26).
South Korea's Junhong Kim, who started the day top finishes it with a Asian Games Qualification Record and is through to the final along with two shooters apiece from China and Vietnam while there is one shooter from Indonesia.
After the first 2 rounds of Skeet qualifications, the Indian men have fared better than the women but there is still a long way to go before either one makes it through to the Skeet finals.
Angad Singh scores a perfect 25 in his second round in the men's skeet qualification and is ensuring that he is keeping pace with the leaders. He now has 49/50.
After the second round of women's skeet qualification, both Rashmi & Ganemat are on 46. While the latter shot 24 out of 25 in the second series, Rashmi managed just 22 after a good start. They are joint-sixth, three behind the leading trio who have 49.
And the second series in the women's Skeet Qualification is underway and both Indian shooters will be looking for a strong outing to close the gap on the leaders.
In the Women's Skeet Qualification, India’s Sekhon Ganemat manages just 22 in the first series, which leaves her in 10th. With 24, Rashmi Rathore is in fifth.
Sheeraz Sheikh had to wait a while before his turn came but so far he has been sensational. He has hit all 17 shots so far and if he shoots a perfect 25, he will go joint top with a bunch of other shooters.
So far, three shooters have shot a perfect 25 after the first round of shots in the Men's Skeet Qualification. And just below them is Angad Singh, who missed just one.
After the first 25 shots, Angad Singh has missed just one. With 24, he is currently joint-second with two other shooters in the Men's Skeet Qualification.
While Ganemat is yet to start her qualification, Rashmi Rathore has got off to a great start so far. She is joint-second and just one shot behind the leader after 25 shots.
India have been enjoying a very good run at shooting at the Asian Games 2018. At no other sport have India won more medals. Of the 25 medals won by India, more than one-third have come in shooting and in no other sport have they won more medals.
So far, Saurabh Chaudhary and Rahi Sarnobat have won GOLD. There have also been four Silver and two Bronze medals. While there has been plenty of reasons for India to celebrate not everything has gone according to plan for India.
On the back of her impressive performances in the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, Manu Bhaker was expected to pick up at least a medal or two but she didn't. Heena Sidhu was on course for at least Silver on day 6 but even she crumbled under pressure and it will be interesting to see if India have finish shooting the way they started it at these Games.
On day seven, India will be looking to secure a medal or two thanks to Shivam Shukla and Anish in the Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol and also progress through to the final of the Men's and Women's Skeet as well.
