Right, a fascinating chase orchestrated by two young men brings an end to this nail-biting finish. Join us tomorrow on Sportskeeda at 6.30 PM for the derby between Chennai Super Kings and the SunRisers Hyderabad at Uppal, Hyderabad. This has been Pragadeesh alongside Lavil Saldanha signing off, we hope you enjoyed our coverage. Keep scrolling Sportskeeda for the latest news in the world of sports. Till then, SEE YA!

23:38 (IST)4 APR 2024

Shashank Singh (player of the match): It is still sinking in, you visualise things before and it feels unreal. I play cricketing shots and the coach told me to react to the ball and play accordingly. The wicket was really good, it was a mixed soil wicket and both teams scoring 200 shows the character of the game. (On facing Rashid and co.) They are legends of the game but when I bat, I feel I am the best in the world. I react to the ball and not to the bowlers. The coaches and the management backed me. I played at SRH a couple of years ago and it was a pretty good experience as well

23:35 (IST)4 APR 2024

Shikhar Dhawan (captain, Punjab Kings): It was an amazing game, was very close and we kept our cool whilst doing the job. The plan was to give a good start. I was dismissed early but we managed to score 60 runs at the end of 6 overs. Our plan was to stick to the basics. We lost wickets in the middle overs but then Shashank came in the middle and changed the game. We need to keep the momentum, Shashank came out in the middle and smashed sixes effortlessly. He kept his cool and finished the game. He started at number 7 and now batting at number 5, it shows his mindset. Ashutosh came in and took the game away as well. Both kept their calm and helped up win the game.

23:27 (IST)4 APR 2024

Ashutosh Sharma - First of all, I would like to thank the Punjab team for believing in me. Feels great. But the main thing is that we have won the game. Shikhar Paaji has helped me a lot. I was just saying to myself that I can do it. I have done it for my home team. A big thanks to Sanjay Bangar sir for believing in me. In the camp, he told me a few things which helped me.  I worked hard with my coach Amay Khurasiya in the pre-season and he told me that I would become a hero if I got a chance. I want to thank everyone back home."

23:20 (IST)4 APR 2024

Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain) - I think a couple of catches went down. The bowlers did a decent job and in a ground like this, it's hard to defend as the ball is coming onto the bat nicely. The ball was doing something with the new ball and 199 is a good total on this wicket. We were in the game until the 15th over. (On giving Nalkande the final over) The way we bowled in the last match and with 7 runs needed, it was no-brainer not to go with him. (On Shashank's knock) That's the IPL for you. There will always be cricketers, who will come and play blinders. That's the beauty of this tournament

Shubman Gill hands the purple cap to Mohit Sharma

23:20 (IST)4 APR 2024

Punjab Kings beat Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets with a ball to spare

Punjab Kings: 200/7 in 19.5 overs

Shashank Singh: 61(29b)* | Prabhsimran Singh: 35(24b)
Noor Ahmad: 2/32 (4 overs) | Mohit Sharman: 1/38 (4 overs)

A record chase for the PBKS, who scale down a 200-plus total for the 6th time in their IPL history, a first in this year's IPL!
The pitch played out well and both the batters and the bowlers had an excellent outing until a couple of young men changed the game's complexion. GT face their second loss of the season, whilst PBKS crawl up the ladder in the points table with this nail-biting win.

PBKS didn't have the best of the starts to the chase. They lost their captain early to an error. Jonny Bairstow started with a flurry of boundaries before falling prey to Noor Ahmad. Prabhsimran Singh, Punjab's best batter this season, got off to a good start but couldn't convert his knock. The middle order limped in particular. Sam Curran was dismissed cheaply and Sikandar Raza struggled to connect the ball well. Jitesh Sharma managed to play some big blows before falling prey to Rashid Khan.

But then come in the heroes of the match: Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma. The former scripted a Shashank Redemption! scoring 61 runs in 29 balls. Ashutosh Sharma was slow to start off the blocks, but then found his feet and connected every ball that came his way, scoring a handy 31 runs in 17 balls. It was an anti-climatic end to the chase as GT reviewed the final ball, but then it was Punjab who came out on top in this contest.

Gujarat Titans matched the Punjab Kings' performance with the ball in hand. Noor Ahmad was their best bowler as he managed to pick up 2 wickets in 4 overs. Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, Darshan Nalkande, Azmatullah Omarzai and Umesh Yadav picked up a wicket each but were expensive and conceded too many runs. Their fielding was spot-on but failed to go hand in hand with the bowling.

23:14 (IST)4 APR 2024

19.5 Darshan Nalkande to Shashank Singh, PUNJAB KINGS REIGN SUPREME. TAKE A BOW

SHASHANK! He not only dragged his team from the jaws of defeat but stayed till the end to steer them home. Pitched up drifting down the leg-side, Shashank misses the flick and the ball ricochets off his front pad to roll towards Saha. He stops but they sneak a leg-bye. Gill takes a hopeless review and the impact is clearly outside leg. Punjab players don't mind this as they congratulate their hero, Shashank Singh,

23:13 (IST)4 APR 2024

SCORES LEVEL! 1 RUN NEEDED IN 2 BALLS! SUPER OVER? PBKS WIN? Anything can happen in the next two deliveries

23:12 (IST)4 APR 2024

19.4 Darshan Nalkande to Shashank Singh, IN THE AIR...AGONISINGLY FOR THE GIANTS

IT FLIES OVER BACKWARD POINT. Covers all three stumps and gets a length delivery, Shashank swings across the line but gets a leading edge. The scores are level

23:12 (IST)4 APR 2024

Equation now: 5 runs | 3 balls. Shashank Singh is on strike with third man and fine leg inside the circle. Will he play safe or go for the glory hit?

23:11 (IST)4 APR 2024

19.3 Darshan Nalkande to Harpreet Brar

slow delivery on a good length, pulled behind square for a single. Brar does a right thing to give the strike to Shashank. Punjab are one hit away

23:11 (IST)4 APR 2024

Drama now! The on-field umpire thinks it is a wide and Saha behind the sticks thinks that it is a fair delivery. GT go upstairs and the review is successful. It is a fair delivery

23:09 (IST)4 APR 2024

19.2 Darshan Nalkande to Harpreet Brar

WIDE! This looks to be a quick bouncer down the leg-side and the umpire signals another wide. Gill takes a review. Brar sways away but the decision has been overturned. The crowd roars

23:08 (IST)4 APR 2024

19.2 Darshan Nalkande to Harpreet Brar

WIDE! Dug it short and it gets too big on Brar. It's long way over the helmet

23:08 (IST)4 APR 2024

Harpreet Brar, LHB, walks out to the middle and will be on strike to face his first delivery

23:05 (IST)4 APR 2024

Surprise surprise! Out of nowhere, Gill hands the ball to Darshan Nalkande, who hasn't bowled an over today, and he strikes on the first ball. A good and impactful knock from Ashutosh Sharma comes to an end.

23:05 (IST)4 APR 2024

19.1 Darshan Nalkande to Ashutosh Sharma

IN THE AIR...TAKEN!  Rashid takes it safely. Off-pace delivery on a good length and this one doesn't even get close to Ashutosh. He tries to go downtown but the ball goes straight up towards Rashid at long-on. Ashutosh departs but he made a difference coming in as an impact sub

23:04 (IST)4 APR 2024

7 runs needed to win in the last over. What are we witnessing today, a nail-biting finish or a super over? It is Darshan Nalkande, right arm fast medium, to bowl the last over

23:04 (IST)4 APR 2024

End of over 19 (18 runs), Punjab Kings 193/6

Shashank Singh 57(27)
Ashutosh Sharma 31(16)
Mohit Sharma 38/1

23:04 (IST)4 APR 2024

18.6 Mohit Sharma to Shashank Singh

SIX! This releases all the tension in Punjab's dugout. Mohit couldn't deliver under pressure on this occasion. Goes off-pace on a good length and it sits up nicely, Shashank has plenty of time to nail the pull. He clobbers it over deep mid-wicket and gets a maximum

23:03 (IST)4 APR 2024

18.5 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

good length delivery outside off, Ashutosh drives it to deep cover for one

23:03 (IST)4 APR 2024

14 needed from 8. Most likely it will be Umesh Yadav to bowl the last over. Mohit will have to be calculative and leave enough runs for Umesh in the end

23:02 (IST)4 APR 2024

18.4 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

APPEAL FOR LBW. NOT GIVEN! Low full toss and the line is straight, Ashutosh shuffles way across the off-stump, to play the scoop but it ricochets off the back pad. The fielders are too deep and the ball stays inside the circle, so they run two

23:01 (IST)4 APR 2024

18.3 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

another slow delivery and it's been picked nicely. Ashutosh pulls it to the right of deep mid-wicket and the fielder collects it on the bounce. He charges back to retain the strike

23:01 (IST)4 APR 2024

That 6 surely has got to bring some wrinkles on the fore head of Gill. 18 runs needed in 10 balls now

23:00 (IST)4 APR 2024

18.2 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

SIX! WHAT A HIT! Picks an off-pace delivery too early and plays a flat-batted pull wide of long-on to get a maximum

22:59 (IST)4 APR 2024

18.1 Mohit Sharma to Shashank Singh

low full toss dipping in around off, Shashank gets underneath it but only drives it to long-on. Quick work from Shankar to keep the batters down to single

22:59 (IST)4 APR 2024

A boundary to end the over and equation for Punjab Kings looks like this: 25 RUNS | 12 BALLS. Can they get there or will they fall short at the final hurdle? Mohit Sharma (3-0-22-1) to bowl the 19th over

22:59 (IST)4 APR 2024

End of over 18 (16 runs), Punjab Kings 175/6

Ashutosh Sharma 22(12)
Shashank Singh 50(25)
Azmatullah Omarzai 41/1

22:59 (IST)4 APR 2024

17.6 Azmatullah Omarzai to Ashutosh Sharma

FOUR! The luck is with the Kings. Short of a length, Ashutosh swings across the line and the ball flies off the top-edge

22:58 (IST)4 APR 2024

17.5 Azmatullah Omarzai to Ashutosh Sharma

DROPPED? Another chances goes begging. Pitched up on a good length around off, Ashutosh lifts it downtown to the left of long-off. Sudharsan puts in a dive and gets his fingers underneath the ball but can't hold onto it

22:57 (IST)4 APR 2024

Maiden IPL 50 for Shashank Singh. Striking the ball magnificently here and he could be a key figure here to take his side home. He is scoring at a strike rate of 200 and this knock could make a big difference

22:57 (IST)4 APR 2024

17.4 Azmatullah Omarzai to Shashank Singh

FIFTY FOR SHASHANK! His fabulous knock keeps Punjab in the contest. Goes full around off-stump, driven to extra cover for a single

22:56 (IST)4 APR 2024

17.3 Azmatullah Omarzai to Ashutosh Sharma

good length delivery outside off, Ashutosh is early into his pull and drags it down to long-on for one

22:56 (IST)4 APR 2024

Back to back boundaries for Ashutosh Sharma. Poor bowling from Omarzai, who pitches it short whilst having third man and fine leg inside the circle

22:56 (IST)4 APR 2024

17.2 Azmatullah Omarzai to Ashutosh Sharma

FOUR MORE! The impact sub is making the difference here for the Kings. Dug it short, Ashutosh plays an upper cut and gets it over the keeper for a boundary

22:55 (IST)4 APR 2024

17.1 Azmatullah Omarzai to Ashutosh Sharma

FOUR! Much-needed boundary. Low full toss outside off, Ashutosh shuffles and goes to one knee to sweep this over backward square leg for a boundary

22:54 (IST)4 APR 2024

Azmatullah Omarzai (3-0-25-1) comes back into the attack and will be bowling to Ashutosh Sharma on strike

PBKS need 41 runs in 18 balls. This match could go the way of GT or PBKS could orchestrate a quick turnaround, quick as in the CricRocket App, where you get the fastest cricket scores at your fingertips!

22:54 (IST)4 APR 2024

End of over 17 (6 runs), Punjab Kings 159/6

Ashutosh Sharma 7(7)
Shashank Singh 49(24)
Mohit Sharma 22/1

22:54 (IST)4 APR 2024

16.6 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

dug it short and the ball doesn't come closer. Ashutosh is early into his pull and couldn't generate any power at all. They end the over with a single

22:52 (IST)4 APR 2024

16.5 Mohit Sharma to Shashank Singh

slow delivery outside off, Shashank shuffles and taps it to deep cover. One run

22:52 (IST)4 APR 2024

16.4 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

short of a length and it's off-pace, Ashutosh punches it down to deep cover for one

22:51 (IST)4 APR 2024

16.3 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

DROPPED! Short of a length angling back, Ashutosh pulls it by taking his eyes off. Umesh settles under it  at deep square leg and spills it eventually

22:50 (IST)4 APR 2024

16.2 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

off-pace delivery and it kicks up to go over the helmet. Ashutosh hops but can't get on top of the bounce

22:49 (IST)4 APR 2024

16.1 Mohit Sharma to Ashutosh Sharma

hits the deck on a good length, Ashutosh stands deep to pull this in front of square and takes a brace. Short run there from Sharma, who fails to cover his ground at the other end while looking to add another run

22:49 (IST)4 APR 2024

PBKS need 47 runs to win in 24 balls. A bit about Ashutosh Sharma: Plays for Railways and has 419 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 198. He could make a difference here and we could be seeing a new gem being unearthed in Indian cricket

22:48 (IST)4 APR 2024

End of over 16 (15 runs), Punjab Kings 153/6

Ashutosh Sharma 2(2)
Shashank Singh 49(23)
Rashid Khan 41/1
