16:43 (IST)15 DEC 2022

So Kuldeep Yadav turned as India's player of the day. In the morning, he a scored 40 runs to provide those extra runs, a psychological advantage for any team when the lower order fires up. Playing a Test match after 22 months, Kuldeep had the appetite to prive his mettle in the red-ball format. He did by claiming four wickets in just 10 overs, three of them were bowled maiden. A third Test five-wicket haul is on the cards for the left-arm spin bowler on Friday, December 16.

16:34 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Kuldeep Yadav: Ofcourse, I was a bit nervous in the first two overs, was a bit lucky to get the first wicket of the first over and brought the momentum back to our side. After couple of overs, I settled in, tried to mix the pace and variation, tried to bowl from over the wicket and around the wicket, getting proper turn and was loving it in the middle.

Kuldeep Yadav: Not much with the action, been a year, I started off my journey after the injury, tried to be quicker with the air, tried to get the rhythm on my side, the pace if helping me a lot, not compromising the spin, just working on my rhythm. I've been working on both the angles, I played couple of games for Ind-A in October, I bowled a lot of around the wicket, first couple of deliveries is always tough when you start, after that you love bowling around the wicket.

Kuldeep Yadav: When I was batting I thought there was no turn on offer for the spinners, thought it will be good for batting against the spinners, of course being a wrist spinner, bowling in these type of surface with the kookaburra ball, definitely gets the turn and bounce.

16:21 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Mehidy played a couple of dot deliveries before picking a single on the third. Ebadot played the last three balls with caution as Bangladesh walk the pitch with two wickets left in their innings. The third session of the second day saw 96 runs scored in 34 overs with the loss of six wickets.

16:19 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Ebadot survived the final over from Kuldeep and leaves Mehidy to face the last six balls. Ravichandran Ashwin takes the ball in his hands to bowl the final one of the day.

16:18 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Six!!!! Ebadot supports Mehidy from the opposite end. Dispatches a big hit over the deep mid-wicket fence for a six.

16:12 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Mehidy Hasan has hit one six and a four off Kuldeep but can he carry on like this, Like he did in the ODI series for the hosts. Any mode of runs are welcomes here to avoid the follow on.

15:54 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Bang Bang!!! Kuldeep picked his fourth and this time it was his spin counterpart Taijul Islam. It was a very similar dismissal to that of Rishabh Pant to Mehidy on Day 1. Taijul looked to cut but got an inside edge back on to the stumps. BAN 117/8 (40 overs) Mushfiqur Rahim 28; Kuldeep Yadav 4/26

15:49 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Kuldeep has another scalp in his quiver and that's the big one of veteran Bangladesh player Mushfiqur Rahim. A cracker leg-break ball was enough to beat the batter and struck his pads before the umpire's finger went up. Even the decision to review the LBW call didn't help Rahim as the ball hit on the leg stump. Bangladesh lose their top-scorer of the day.

15:44 (IST)15 DEC 2022

That's the wicket for Kuldeep Yadav after trying to fox Nurul Hasan on numerous balls, the left-arm wrist spinner gets the wicket he was vying for. Kudos to the quick and sharp catch by Shubman Gill at the short leg to end Nurul's innings. He goes after scoring 16 runs in 22 balls (4 x 3)

BAN 97/6 (33 overs)  Litton Das 24; Mohammed Siraj 3/14

15:35 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Nurul Hasan has cleared the boundaries three times in the day but faces a stiff competition against Kuldeep at the same time. Kuldeep has come very close on a few instances to get the better of the Bangladesh keeper. BAN 97/5 (31 overs) Litton Das 24; Mohammed Siraj 3/14

15:26 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Mushfiqur Rahim has scored the most runs in Tests at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

HS: 105
Average: 43.24
50s: 8
100s: 2

15:21 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Nurul Hasan survived a couple of close calls for LBW and after minutes of strenuous checking the decision stayed to not out. Kuldeep was on absolute fire in his first over.

15:10 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Shakib stepped forward with the intention to flick across the line but ended up with an thick outside edge. Virat Kohli takes a comfortable catch in the slip cordon as half of the Bangladesh side is back in their dressing room. BAN 79/5 (25 overs) Litton Das 24; Mohammed Siraj 3/14

15:06 (IST)15 DEC 2022

India introduced Kuldeep Yadav just after the drinks break. A big opportunity as well as a test for the wrist spinner to bowl against Bangladesh's senior players.

15:05 (IST)15 DEC 2022

First Siraj and now Umesh is using the short balls to trick Shakib. All the Bangladesh skipper does is put on a giddy smile to comprehend those balls in his mind.

14:58 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Rishabh Pant's absence of mind costs India four byes. Shakib Al Hasan attempted to cut the low turn off Ashwin but was beaten and so did Rishabh Pant as the ball went between his legs for a boundary.

14:45 (IST)15 DEC 2022

It's all left to the experienced campaigners Shakib and Mushfiqur to play their best innings against India if Bangladesh withstand the remaining final session on Day 2.

14:38 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Bangladesh innings has been dented with another blow as Siraj nicked Zakir Hasan behind the wickets. A back of a length delivery that turned straight to induced the edge of the southpaw. Siraj picked his third wicket as Bangladesh feeble after tea break. BAN 57/4 Litton Das 24; Mohammed Siraj 3/13

14:33 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan has developed a better approach to play Ravichandran Ashwin. He keeps shuffling across the leg side to find room and play the absolute delighted cover drive.

14:23 (IST)15 DEC 2022

A heated argument between Litton Das and Mohammed Siraj followed the dismissal of the Bangladesh batter. Siraj executed the nip backer to beat his man and clean his stumps before putting the finger on his lips to give a befitting send off. The Indian fielders were charged up as Litton was threatening to impose big runs against them. BAN 49/3 (16 overs) Litton Das 24; Mohammed Siraj 2/12

14:13 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Most runs in 2022 in all formats of international cricket -

Babar Azam - 2291
Litton Das - 1804*
Mohammad Rizwan - 1572
Steve Smith - 1433

13:45 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Litton Das is in the mood to exhibit some palpable shots against Umesh Yadav as he clubbed three consecutive boundaries in a row. Bangladesh closed on 37/2 just before the tea break as the hosts are 367 runs behind India in the first innings. BAN 37/2 (10 overs) Litton Das 24; Mohammed Siraj 1/6

13:42 (IST)15 DEC 2022

An outside edge that found space between the slip and gully for his first boundary of the innings was followed by an impressive cut shot for a second four in the Ashwin over.

13:36 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Time for Bangladesh to test some fiery spin bowling as Ravichandran Ashwin holds the ball to march toward his 450-Test wicket tally in the series.

13:26 (IST)15 DEC 2022

The Bangladesh batting will revolve more around Litton Das and experienced campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim. The two needs to ensure that they can put enough runs on the table to put their side in a better position in case they think of avoiding a follow-on.

13:24 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Umesh cartwheels the leg stump of Yasir Ali with Bangladesh losing their second wickets in five overs. Yasir played away from the body and found an inside edge that crashed onto the stumps.

13:06 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Mohammed Siraj strikes on the very first ball of the Bangladesh innings. Siraj angled the ball across from the off stump line and the it eventually shaped across the left-handed batter who poked the ball behind the stumps for Rishabh Pant to dive to his left to take a brilliant catch in the end.

12:53 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Mohammed Siraj looked to follow the approach of Umesh and skied the ball but only for Mushfiqur Rahim to pouch at long-on with a sensible judgement. India were bowled out for 404 in the first innings inside 134 overs. IND 404 (133.5 overs) Cheteshwar Pujara 90; Mehidy Hasan 4/112 (31.5 overs)

12:49 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Umesh Yadav and his brisk hitting in Test cricket is just something that can never be missed. The pace bowler smashed two sixes to Mehidy to surge the scoring rate. The second one took India beyond 400 in their total.

12:42 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Quick wickets for Bangladesh as they get two after toiling for almost 33 overs. After waging an interesting battle against Taijul Islam, Kuldeep was trapped for LBW by the left-arm spinner on 40. A decision to review didn't work as India lost their nine wickets. Bangladesh would aim to wrap the Indian innings quickly from here on.

12:33 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Mehidy Hasan finally gets the deadlock for Bangladesh in the second session as he forces Ashwin to once again come down the pitch to play a big hit. The batter missed and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan took his time to take off the bails.

12:30 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Kuldeep has not just went after the sweeps and reverse sweeps but has also backed his traditional strokeplay. A majestic cover drive was alluring even though it fetched just a couple of runs. The sweeps continued to annoy Taijul and Mehidy as India are in a commanding position.

12:25 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Ashwin and Kuldeep should keep a note of the low bounce this surface has to offer. KL Rahul can put his spinners right from the word go to get some early wickets. Perhaps after how these two have batted so far, bowling them at the start won't be a great move.

12:14 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Four!!! Kuldeep is having a great hit at his counterpart Taijul since the time he walked into bat on the pitch. Sweeps and reverse sweeps were played audaciously and slog-swept just laced his art of countering the spin threat. IND 377/7 (128 overs) Cheteshwar Pujara 90; Taijul Islam 3/122 (43 overs)

12:07 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Four!!! Kuldeep was on one knee to sweep Taijul for another boundary past the square leg. The left-handed batter has moved to 28 which is his highest score with the bat in Tests.

12:00 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Taijul Islam trapped Kuldeep on the pads with a massive turn but the raucous appeal was denied as the onfield umpire shook his head. After a few seconds of pondering, Shakib Al Hasan gestured for a review, with not much confidence, and the ball hit near the leg stump and with the umpire's call, Kuldeep stayed at his crease. Bangladesh retained the review.

11:56 (IST)15 DEC 2022

SIX!!!! Ravichandran Ashwin stepped down the pitch and hoicked it over mid-on before clearing the long-on boundary for a maximum. Ashwin takes a single the very next ball to complete his 13th Test fifty. A great intent shown by the Tamil Nadu veteran to boost the visitor's total.

11:50 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Another reverse sweep shot from Kuldeep in the day takes India's score to 351 just after the lunch break. Kuldeep has looked confident in playing the unconventional shots particularly against Taijul. IND 353/7 (122 overs) Cheteshwar Pujara 90; Taijul Islam 3/103 (40 overs)

11:39 (IST)15 DEC 2022

If you missed then just to bring to your notice. Bangladesh conceded seven runs in one ball. It was Taijul Islam bowling the second ball of the 112th over. Ashwin got an outside edge that goes towards the third man. The fielder's throw directly hit the helmet of wicketkeeper, positioned on the ground at the striker's end. As a consequent, Bangladesh were penalised five runs that added to the couple of runs plundered by Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav.

11:28 (IST)15 DEC 2022

FYI: Innings gap for batters to score a century

Cheteshwar Pujara: 51

Virat Kohli: 33

11:19 (IST)15 DEC 2022

The ball was turning more slower than quick and it assisted the likes of Taijul and Mehidy to skid the ball low. But to Indian batters' sensibility, they used their own art of spin to tackle the turns and lows with resistance.

11:13 (IST)15 DEC 2022

It would be a watchful thing to see how Shakib Al Hasan makes his bowling changes. Whether he persist with spin bowlers from both ends or get Ebadot to get the breakthrough. If this partnership stretches further then it would be a thorn in the flesh for the hosts.

10:58 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Mehidy Hasan will bowl the final over of the first session on second day. Kuldeep and Ashwin did a tremendous job in their 55-run stand to ensure India didn't lose any wicket after the departure of a well-settled Shreyas Iyer. India have added 70 runs in the session as their score read 348/7 after 120 overs.

10:50 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Four!!! A sweet cover drive from Ashwin after he came down his crease with a great placement to hit the flighted delivery off Taijul past the extra cover. IND 335/7 (116 overs) Cheteshwar Pujara 90; Taijul Islam 3/99 (38 overs)

10:47 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Bangladesh opted for a review for a LBW call against Ashwin. Taijul pinned the batter on bats and a lout shout for a wicket was turned down. However, the hosts opted for their only review left in the innings. The replays showed that the ball hit the player outside the leg stump. Bangladesh retained their review with umpire's call stayed with Ashwin not out.

10:43 (IST)15 DEC 2022

It's interesting to see Shakib Al Hasan bringing his part-time bowlers after a long spell from Mehidy and Taijul. Najmul Hossain Shanto comes in to roll his arms.

10:41 (IST)15 DEC 2022

Not to forget Kuldeep has a great opportunity to make a big statement in this Test. With Ravindra Jadeja's absence amid series of injuries in the Indian camp, the Uttar Pradesh player will have to pull his socks. A good score with the bat will add to his efforts.
