With that, our coverage for today's game comes to an end. Hope you had fun with us with the game going down right to the wire. Join us tomorrow for more action as Rajasthan Royals take on Gujarat Titans. Till then, this is Bala and Pradeep signing off. Good night!

23:42 (IST)9 APR 2024

With that victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings are locked in the fifth and sixth positions respectively in the points table. Having played five matches each, the Sunrisers have a 2 point advantage over the Kings at this point. The middle-muddle is only going to be tougher from hereon.

23:40 (IST)9 APR 2024

Nitish Kumar Reddy (Player of the Match): It's a big contribution to my team and myself. I take a lot of confidence from this game. I was talking to myself, that I need to take my team to a good situation. Seamers were bowling well, I knew that spinners were going to come and I wanted to attack them. You can see the whole tournament, the slow bouncers are working. I tried to use the dimensions and I got the wicket. I want to continue this performance, with the bat or ball or on the field for my team.

23:39 (IST)9 APR 2024

Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad captain): A bit stressed (chuckles). It was a great game of cricket. Their bowlers bowled really well. We did really well to get to 180. And our bowlers defended well, but it came to the wire. The beauty of the impact player, it seems like we bat deep. It was tough early on, but you've got to be aggressive. You score 150-160, and you are going to lose 9 out of 10 games. The new ball a key time. (On opening the bowling) Mainly conditions, saw what happened with the new ball in the first innings. I decided to open with Bhuvi, trying to get a couple of wickets. We have got plenty of left-armers, right-armers in there. So we could use the dimensions. well. (On Nitish Reddy) Debuted last week, batting top of the order this week, bowled 3 overs, and got us to 180. It was unreal.

23:24 (IST)9 APR 2024

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: That's the beauty of the T20 game, wicket changed a lot in the last few overs, as we scored runs, they also scored runs. Nail biting encounter but good to get a win. (About that stumping) I asked him to come up, Shikhar was stepping out more, looking to get something off the wicket and it worked. (Last time he had a stumping of his bowling) I think it was when I was playing with Pune Warriors, can't remember. (On his form with the ball) More than difficult, it depends on how you prepare, everyone knows what you are going to do, but keep it simple and luck also matters, keep doing the simple things. Batted really well, today as well, when someone like that batting out there, they can win the game and it's appreciation, really good for Indian cricket.

23:19 (IST)9 APR 2024

Shikhar Dhawan (Punjab Kings captain): I feel that, Shashank and Ashutosh played a great knock, I feel that we restricted them on a good total but we couldn't cash in the powerplay, lost too many wickets and that pegged us back. Of course, wicket is not offering that bounce, we need to come up with better plans and change those shots. At the end, that dropped catch in the end, could've restricted them to 10 or 15 runs less, but the batter couldn't step up, the top order to be precise. Great to see, youngsters coming in and stepping in, we will look to bounce back from this loss. There was always hope they could finish the game, they took us deep but we can always improve on many things and get better.

23:16 (IST)9 APR 2024

Sunrisers Hyderabad win by 2 runs!
Punjab Kings 180/6 (20 overs)
Shashank Singh 46*(25) | Ashutosh Sharma 33*(15)
Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2/32 (4) | Pat Cmmins 1/22 (4)

That was one heck of a run-chase with the fortunes swinging from one side to the other. The pair of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma seemed to be pulling off the heist two nights in a row, but they fell desperately short of the target. But what a game of cricket it was for the viewers!

The chase began in a way very similar to what we saw in the first innings. Punjab Kings lost their top-three in the powerplay and all the batters found it tough to get going against the moving ball. Pat Cummins made a smart move opening the bowling with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He knew that they had to strike with the new ball and he took the onus upon himself, dismissing the dangerous Jonny Bairstow in the process.

Sam Curran led the charge for a bit before getting out to a blinder of a catch from Cummins. Sikandar Raza took over the reins but his innings too was to be short-lived. Ashutosh Sharma joined Shashank Singh once again with 26 balls left in the innings and 79 runs to win.

What we saw afterwards was two lesser-known players taking the onus on themselves and shouldering their team towards the finish line. Punjab Kings had no business winning this match from that point but this duo almost made it possible. Natarajan bowled a good penultimate over, leaving 29 runs for Unadkat to defend in the final over. The match once again seemed to be sealed at this stage, but it was not to be. Unadkat was under tremendous pressure, missing the tramline on multiple occasions. The three dropped catches, two of which were parried over the boundary, did not help either. 26 runs came off that over, but the Kings still ended up 2 runs short of a miraculous victory.

Skipper Pat Cummins deserves a lot of credit for the way he rotated his bowlers around. The move to open the bowling with Bhuvneshwar Kumar set the tone for the innings. There was just one over of spin throughout the innings, which tells you the nature of the pitch. Nitish Kumar Reddy was a bit expensive, but Cummins managed to squeeze out 3 overs out of him.

Sunrisers bowlers haven't had the best of times in the tournament so far. They have not been successful in penetrating the opposition with breakthrough. Their batters have been devastating so far, handing a couple of dominating victories. It will give them immense confidence that the bowlers have won them a close game today.

23:14 (IST)9 APR 2024

Three dropped chances in the final over, but the Sunrisers can still pull it off! Take a bow, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma!

23:13 (IST)9 APR 2024

End of over 20 (26 runs), Punjab Kings 180/6

Shashank Singh 46(25)
Ashutosh Sharma 33(15)
Jaydev Unadkat 49/1

23:13 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.6 Jaydev Unadkat to Shashank Singh

SIX! TOO LATE! Sunrisers Hyderabad go over the line, but only just! Length delivery outside the off-stump, Shashank clubbed it all the way over long-off for a maximum. Punjab gave the scare in the final over, but Unadkat just manages to hold on to his nerve and they pick up two crucial points here.

23:13 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.5 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

DROPPED! Tripathi the culprit, spills a sitter. Slower one, back of a length on the off-stump. Ashutosh heaves it away, no power at all but Tripathi runs in and shells it.

23:11 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.5 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

WIDE! Unadkat opts for the cutter and tries to keep it wide of off-stump, but goes outside the tramline, another wide has been signaled.

23:11 (IST)9 APR 2024

11 runs required off 2 balls. 10 for a super over!

23:11 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.4 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

change of pace, banged into the track. Ashutosh had to generate all the power as he pulled it to deep square-leg, they sprint back for another brace. Punjab still in the game here, need 11 off the last two!

23:10 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.3 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

23:09 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.2 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

SIX! Now Samad tips it over the bar, what is happening here? Full outside the off-stump, in the slot and Ashutosh smoked it flat and down to long-off. Samad times his jump, and just like it bursts over the ropes.

23:08 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.2 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

WIDE! Unadkat under pressure here, slower one, banged it into the track and goes outside the tramline again and it's another wide that has been signaled.

23:08 (IST)9 APR 2024

Om: "Shashank and Ashutosh did great job but it's too late"

23:08 (IST)9 APR 2024

22 runs required off 5 balls!

23:08 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.2 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

WIDE! Looks to keep it wide of the off-stump, but Unadkat goes wayward, goes outside the tramline and has been called a wide.

23:07 (IST)9 APR 2024

19.1 Jaydev Unadkat to Ashutosh Sharma

SIX! Goes straight down the throat of Nitish, times his jump but tips it over the bar at deep mid-wicket for a maximum. Short outside the off-stump, Ashutosh clobbered it flat and just had enough to clear the fielder.

23:06 (IST)9 APR 2024

T Natarajan delivers yet again at the death. Some brilliant batting produced a couple of boundaries, but he has still managed to leave 29 runs for Unadkat to defend in the last over. It is going to take a Rinku Singh effort to pull it off from here.

Here's Jaydev Unadkat [3.0-0-24-1] with the final over.

23:06 (IST)9 APR 2024

Mohan: "Cummins very good captaincy.  He used his bowlers at the correct time"

23:05 (IST)9 APR 2024

End of over 19 (10 runs), Punjab Kings 154/6

Shashank Singh 40(24)
Ashutosh Sharma 16(10)
T Natarajan 33/1

23:05 (IST)9 APR 2024

18.6 T Natarajan to Shashank Singh

excellent finish to the over. Nails another yorker outside the off-stump. Shashank looks to squeeze it away and misses.

23:05 (IST)9 APR 2024

18.5 T Natarajan to Shashank Singh

FOUR MORE! Such a clever shot from Shashank. Walks across off-stump, picks the full toss and flicks it down to fine-leg with a scoop shot, runs away to find the ropes. Punjab hanging by a thread here!

23:04 (IST)9 APR 2024

18.4 T Natarajan to Ashutosh Sharma

full outside the off-stump, Ashutosh reaches for it and carves it to deep backward point for just a single.

23:04 (IST)9 APR 2024

18.3 T Natarajan to Ashutosh Sharma

good come back from Natarajan. Nails the yorker, right up in the blockhole. Ashutosh digs it out back to the bowler.

23:03 (IST)9 APR 2024

18.2 T Natarajan to Ashutosh Sharma

FOUR! My word, genius stuff from Ashutosh. Natarajan misses the yorker, low full toss and wide of off-stump. Ashutosh gets low and gets under and smacked it wide long-on, goes one bounce into the ropes.

23:03 (IST)9 APR 2024

18.1 T Natarajan to Shashank Singh

wide yorker to start the over. Shashank reaches and squeezes it to deep backward point for a single.

23:02 (IST)9 APR 2024

Not a bad over against the best bowler of the opposition. They scored 11 runs off it and remained unbeaten. One over coming up each from Natarajan and Unadkat. 39 runs required from 2 overs. We are going down to the wire here.

T Natarajan [3.0-0-23-1] will bowl the all-important penultimate over. He has made his name with toe-crushing yorkers. How much can he leave for Unadkat to defend off the last over?

23:01 (IST)9 APR 2024

End of over 18 (11 runs), Punjab Kings 144/6

Ashutosh Sharma 11(7)
Shashank Singh 35(21)
Pat Cummins 22/1

23:01 (IST)9 APR 2024

17.6 Pat Cummins to Ashutosh Sharma

OH! That was thrashed, but finds the mid-off fielder. Full and in the slot, Ashutosh gets hold of it, laces it along the turf for no run.

23:01 (IST)9 APR 2024

17.5 Pat Cummins to Shashank Singh

OH! Bangs in the short delivery, Shashank looks to pull but hits high on the bat, went in the air to long-on, but falls safely as they pick up a single.

23:00 (IST)9 APR 2024

17.4 Pat Cummins to Ashutosh Sharma

another slower one, banged it into the track into the batter. Ashutosh mistimes the pull down to long-on for one.

22:59 (IST)9 APR 2024

17.2 Pat Cummins to Ashutosh Sharma

FOUR! SHOT AND A HALF! Ridculous shot from Ashutosh, what bat speed and what timing on it. Back of a length on the fifth stump, Ashutosh backing away, cuts it fiercely through covers, almost goes the distance.

22:58 (IST)9 APR 2024

17.1 Pat Cummins to Shashank Singh

back of a length on the off-stump, Shashank looks to pull but doesn't get the timing right, goes past mid-wicket for a single.

22:58 (IST)9 APR 2024

Pat Cummins [3.0-0-11-1] will bowl the 18th over. This over is going to be key for Kings. Anything less than 10 runs, they are going to have an uphill task in the final two overs.

22:58 (IST)9 APR 2024

17 runs off that over. Just what Punjab Kings were looking for. Can the pair of Shashank and Ashutosh pull it off two matches in a row?

22:57 (IST)9 APR 2024

End of over 17 (17 runs), Punjab Kings 133/6

WIDE! Can't keep it inside the tramline again, tries to bowl wide of off-stump and another wide has been signaled. Klaasen asks Bhuvi to challenge it.

Shashank did move across off-stump in advance and the ball lands outside the tramline. TV umpire asks the on-field umpire to signal it wide.

22:55 (IST)9 APR 2024

22:53 (IST)9 APR 2024

16.2 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Shashank Singh

FOUR MORE! Sensational shot, back to back boundaries and Shashank is turning it on here. Full outside the off-stump, Shashank thrashes it through the covers, races away to the ropes.

22:53 (IST)9 APR 2024

16.1 Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Shashank Singh

EDGED AND FOUR! Just the kind of start they needed. Length delivery outside the off-stump, Shashank reaches for it and slashes it over the top of short third-man, runs away to the ropes.
