While on one hand, we can rejoice in the qualification of Kamalpreet Kaur, who now is a serious medal contender. On the other hand, there is also reason to be sad as Amit Panghal (boxing) and Seema Punia bows out of the Olympics.

Nonetheless, it is an action-packed day so stay tuned and take care.

Kamalpreet Kaur will be in action next. Her best is 66.59m this year, which should be enough to put her in the medal contention, given the conditions in Tokyo. The throwers haven't been able to perform their best so far.

Group A qualification over

None of the throwers managed to cross the qualification mark of 64m. It means they will now have to wait for the group B results and hope they finish in top 12.

Croatia's Sandra Perkovic, 2019 world bronze medalist, finished No.1 in group A with a throw of 63.75m, followed by Kristin Pudenz of Germany, who registered 63.53m.

India's Seema Punia finished sixth with the best throw of 60.57m. Her qualification hopes are still alive as she hopes to finish in top 12.

Current world champion Yaime Perez will be the favorite to win the gold medal. However, she will face stiff challenge from Netherlands Jorinde Van Klinken and USA Valarie Allman. The latter are the only two discus throwers this year to cross the 70m- mark.
