Previously, batting first, the Rajputs had put on a impressive score of 121 runs on the board courtesy some big hitting from captain Brendon McCullum and a handy cameo from Rilee Rossouw. For the Pakhtoons, captain Shahid Afridi lead the bowling attack from the front, giving away just 11 runs and picking up the important wicket of Rossouw.
What a thriller ! Easily the best match of the tournament so far. Pakhtoons openers began well and raced away to 32 runs from first two overs. Three good overs in the middle brought the Rajputs back into the game but Andre Fletcher showed his class with a match winning innings of 68 runs. He was ably supported from the other end by Shafiq who was slow to begin with but later on played the ramp shot to very good effect. For the Rajputs, Sayed Shirzad was the pick of the bowlers and gave away just 15 runs from his 2 overs.
A six down the ground hands Pakhtoons their first win of the tournament. What a brilliant knock from Fletcher who finishes on 68 runs from just 27 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes.
Pakhtoons won by 9 wickets with 2 balls to spare !
Braithwaite comes on to bowl the seventh over and is flicked stylishly over fine leg for a gigantic six. The ball goes out of the stadium. New balls please !
Shafiq finally gets going and slams the last ball of the over for a six. Still a good over from Munaf in the context of the game. Just 8 runs came from it.
Delport tries to up the tempo but launches a back off the hand slower delivery, high into the sky and Ben Dunk settles under it to complete a good catch.
Munaf tries to keep it simple and bowls it wicket-to-wicket but is still dispatched for two fours by the impressive Fletcher. Fletcher then gets under a length ball and flicks it over the square leg boundary for a six.
Poor bowling this from Patel. Bowls one right in the slot for Delport who helps himself by lofting it over the long off boundary. the next ball is slog-swept for a four as well. Great start this for the Pakhtoons.
The Rajputs began on a great note as McCullum and Rossouw smashed the Pakhtoons bowlers in the powerplay. They were 70/1 after 4 overs. But a couple of good overs from captain Shahid Afridi and left arm spinner Ashraf brought them back into the game. Irfan then delivered a dream last over to restrict the Rajputs to a score of 121 runs. Rajputs looked set to cross the 140 run mark and will be disappointed with their final score at the end. Can the likes of Andre Fletcher, Colin Ingram power the Pakhtoons to 122? We will get to know shortly.
Irfan makes a fantastic comeback after being plundered for 24 runs in the first over. McCullum struggles to get him away and is cleaned up of a low full toss by Irfan. 3 dot balls before that.
A back off the hand slower delivery is picked up early by Evans who launches it high into the sky but it also has the desired legs on it to cross the boundary ropes easily. Evans then dinks Sohail over the keeper for another four. 14 runs came from that over.
Some drama here as McCullum is bowled of a waist high full toss. The on-field umpires check with the third umpire who rightly labels it as a no ball above waist height. The free-hit is then smashed to the boundary for a four by McCullum.
Afridi continues his good work for the 5 balls of his over but bowls the last ball in the hitting arc of McCullum and is launched into the cow corner for a six !
The comeback is on for the Pakhtoons. Ashraf delivers another dream over with just 5 runs coming from it. It could have been even better had Dawson held on to a catch from McCullum on the last ball of Ashraf's over. Big miss that !
