Amit Panghal's projected path to Tokyo Olympics final

Amit Panghal's medal chances got tougher at the Tokyo Olympics after the boxing draws were announced on Thursday. 

The Indian pugilist is the top seed in the 52 kg men’s category but faces a strong group of boxers on the road to the final.

Amit Panghal, the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist, will be competing in his first Olympics. And although he is the favorite to finish at the podium, the pressure may work against him. We have explained it in the article below.

Can Vikas Krishnan finally grab the elusive Olympic medal?

Vikas Krishnan will be eyeing the elusive Olympic medal in Tokyo. This is his third Olympic Games. In the 2012 London Olympics, he was knocked out in the preliminary round while he managed to survive till the quarterfinals at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

He currently competes in the middleweight category, the same class where Vijender Singh won an Olympic bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

India will field nine boxers, including seasoned MC Mary Kom, at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. While Amit Panghal (52kg) is India’s biggest hope for a medal at the Tokyo Olympics, Mary Kom will bank on her experience to change the color of her 2012 Olympic bronze medal. 

Boxing events at the Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 24 at the Kokugikan arena. The competition will be held until August 8.
