5 Possible future fights for Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC

After successfully defending the title at UFC 229, the possibilities are limitless for Khabib Nurmagomedov. By beating Conor McGregor his popularity and legacy have increased to an all-new level. The Russian champion is now one of the top men in the UFC, with his undefeated streak reaching all new levels.

Following his win, fighters from all over have wanted to face him, including the ever-divisive Floyd 'Money' Mayweather. With the number of stars waiting to face him in the future, there are several fights which could be in the future for Khabib Nurmagomedov.

In this article, we take a look at the 5 possible future opponents for the Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov.

#1.Tony Ferguson:

Tony Ferguson is at the top of the deserving list of fighters to fight Khabib. It is true that he pulled out from the last fight due to an injury but he never lost the title. He also secured a victory against Anthony Pettis to earn the title shot.

The fans are waiting to see the clash of Ferguson's10th planet Jiu Jitsu and Khabib's wrestling when the game goes to the ground. It will be a thing to be seen if Ferguson's Jiu Jitsu and aggressive fighting style are good enough to get the submission win for him.

#2. Brian T-City Ortega:

Another upcoming undefeated sensation is the kid from California, Brian Ortega. Yet to be defeated inside an MMA cage, Ortega seems to hold the promise of the future coming into the UFC.

Given his background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and having earned his black belt under Rener Gracie, he is another threat for Khabib on the ground. Ortega might be the one to finally end the streak and continue his own.

Tyron Woodley is one of the martial artist's closest to Khabib's division who has the best chance of beating him. He had recently proved that he is one of the best fighters when he retained his Welterweight Championship by beating a till-then undefeated Darren Till.

His current status in the mixed martial arts world could even possibly rival with that of Georges St-Pierre. This is definitely one of the toughest match-ups for Khabib Nurmagomedov and undoubtedly his biggest challenge.

If this fight were to happen, it would be one of the biggest fights in the history of Mixed Martial Arts. Both fighters have the same fighting style as they take their opponents to the ground and pound them. Their strengths in their divisions are unrivalled as are their grappling abilities.

Before the fight with Conor there were doubts regarding the striking capability of Khabib but after the right hook which sent Conor McGregor crashing down in the second round, there's no more doubt in his ability. These fighters facing each other would be comparable to an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. These fighters may respect each other but when the cage closes we would be in for a show.

Conor McGregor has asked Dana White for a rematch where he could face Khabib Nurmagomedov. Looking back to the Nate Diaz series, he won the second bout, but many doubt if the same would be the result with Khabib when these two finally end up facing each other.

The fight was one-sided between them, and according to many fans, he will have to work a lot on his wrestling and grappling for the rematch. It is true that he has toyed with many wrestlers like Eddie Alvarez and Chad Mendez before but Khabib is at another level. It is rumoured that he might fight cowboy Cerrone next. If he can win a few more fights and build his confidence, then it might be time for the rematch.
