Exclusive: Ben Askren is focused on his fight with Robbie Lawler ahead of UFC 235
Ben Askren is set to become quite the figure at UFC 235 when he makes his debut in the company. After being traded for a fighter like Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson, Askren has everything to prove in front of a UFC audience.
While his performances in ONE Championship speak for themselves, he has to do it all over again as he heads into the biggest UFC card of 2019.
Ahead of his fight with Robbie Lawler, I had the chance to pose a few questions before Ben Askren.
Tune in to Sony Six and Sony Six HD to find out about all the action from UFC 235: Jones vs Smith at 8:30 AM.
Q. You have had quite the stir-up with Kamaru Usman recently. What’s the situation like between the two of you?
BA: I don’t think there is a situation.
Q. Coming to UFC last year, this is going to be your first fight for the company. What are your thoughts like before your fight?
BA: I’m just here to fight the best fighters in the world, that’s all I’m here to do, that’s my one and only focus at this point in my career.
Q. Given the incredible record of Robbie Lawler, what has your preparation for your fight against him been like?
BA: He’s a brawler, he has a good strong striking style. But it’s all good, I’m feeling good and it’s going to be me trying to take him down.
While Ben Askren did not talk about his disputes with Kamaru Usman, he said that there was no situation according to him. While Usman may or may not agree with that, it is clear that the UFC debutant is focused on one -- and only one -- thing. His fight against the former Champion, Robbie Lawler.
