Former WWE superstar Alberto 'El Patron' took everyone by surprised when he announced that he was returning to MMA for the first time in over 9 years to take on former UFC Champion Tito Ortiz.

There's no doubt that Alberto Rodriguez is the underdog in the bout but it's a role that he quite enjoys. When asked by MMA Fighting about his motive to get back into MMA after almost a decade, he said that it had a lot to do with his personal life and the tough divorce he went through:

“I think this is really important — the main reason was my divorce was really difficult for me, for my life. The battle for the custody of my kids took a lot from me and it was a very difficult time in my life. The company, my bosses, they have been supporting me since day No. 1.

He said that his decision to return to MMA for one night is to repay Combate Americas and the loyalty they showed him:

“After I put all that behind me I started thinking how can you repay these amazing people? How can you help this company that has given you so much? You pay loyalty with loyalty.

It's clear that he's in a much better place right now and he's aware that the odds aren't in his favor but he's still confident that he can walk out victorious. It's been a long time since he's competed in MMA, and hopefully, he'll be able to hang on with the likes of Ortiz.

There has been a bit of bad blood between the two men and there is going to be fireworks in the cage when they fight.
