MMA News: Colbey Northcutt creates an impression on her debut at ONE: Edge of Greatness
Colbey Northcutt made a remarkable return to the professional MMA scene with a stunning victory over Putri Padmi at ONE Championship: Edge of Greatness on Friday, November 22.
Sister of another ONE fighter and ex-UFC Welterweight Sage Northcutt, she had begun her professional career on a losing note against Courtney King at LFA 14. But she turned the tables around at ONE: Edge of Greatness at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Martial arts is in Northcutt's blood
The first round saw Putri Padmi take the fight to the ground at which time it looked like she was dominating. Following that, however, Colbey Northcutt took complete control of the fight as she was able to knock down Padmi and grapple with her. The Kickboxing display, as well as an attempted armbar, saw her retain the domination in the fight.
Thus when the time came for the results to be declared, it was no surprise when the fight was called in her favor via Unanimous Decision.
Although her professional record does not do much for her reputation, her sheet as an amateur says otherwise. Other than three submission wins and one decision victory, Colbey is also a 36-time Karate World Champion. Both Colbey and her brother Sage were born with martial arts in their heritage, as his father Mark Northcutt happens to be a black belt in shuri-ryu karate.
Colbey started as young as 7-year old under her father's tutelage and then went on to compete in several tournaments around the world with her brother to further hone her skills in the art of combat.
