Quite recently, on his podcast with Michael Bisping, Anthony Smith weighed in on the latest controversy involving Conor McGregor. The Irishman allegedly assaulted a woman on his multi-million dollar yacht in July last year.

The woman in question reportedly jumped off the yacht into the Mediterranean sea after the incident and was rescued by the Spanish coast guard. An investigation regarding the same is currently ongoing in Ibiza, Spain. According to the woman, the incident happened close to the island of Formentera.

Here's what Anthony Smith said when asked by Bisping about his thoughts on the whole situation:

"So, I try to tip-toe really really carefully around some of this stuff until he [McGregor] is charged or convicted or whatever, because who knows [the actual truth at this moment]? And this isn't me sticking up for Conor, this isn't me saying [that] he did or didn't do it. I'm saying [that] when you're a powerful person, when you're super, super rich, when you're in a position of fame like Conor is; people will say anything to either get money or get out or whatever."

Smith doubled down on the fact that it isn't fair to just believe anything before hearing all sides of the story. Although Anthony Smith isn't on the best terms with Conor McGregor, he said he had no wish to "crucify" the Irish megastar over unverified allegations.

In regards to the allegations against 'The Notorious', Smith said:

"But the allegations [against Conor McGregor]? They're f*****g horrible. The allegations are terrible, and if that is something that happened to her then I feel for her. I'm very, very sorry."

What's next for Anthony Smith?

Anthony Smith was supposed to face Jamahal Hill in March 2023. He was ranked a spot above Hill at the time, and the two were supposed to duke it out at UFC Fight Night 221.

However, 'Sweet Dreams' was catapulted to a title shot after the UFC 282 bout between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev didn't result in the new LHW champion being crowned.

With Jamahal Hill as the new champion and Glover Teixeira retiring after UFC 283, the upper echelon at 205 lbs is in flux. The No.1-ranked contender Jiří Procházka is recovering from a nasty shoulder injury. Another top contender, Aleksandar Rakić, is set to return soon.

If Jiří Procházka makes a quick return, he’ll likely get an immediate title shot. If 'Denisa' stays out of action, many feel the most obvious title fight to make is Hill versus Magomed Ankalaev. After his championship bout with Blachowicz at UFC 282 that ended in a draw, many felt that Ankalaev ought to have won on the scorecards.

Smith will have a chance to throw himself into title contention if he fights and wins against No.4-ranked contender Aleksandar Rakić.
