"Any other interpretation was just wrong and truly unfortunate" - Conor McGregor's team releases statement on his mother's controversial Halloween look

Conor McGregor recently responded to allegations about his mother wearing blackface to a Halloween party. 'The Notorious' dressed up as a pilot and sported a rare clean-shaven look for Halloween.

McGregor and his fiancé, Dee Devlin, were joined by the UFC superstar's mother, Margaret, and sister, Erin, along with her family.

After the Irishman posted the pictures on Instagram, McGregor's mother, who was wearing a cave-woman costume, was accused of painting her face dark black. However, the family has denied the allegations, claiming that Mrs. McGregor's face had spiders painted on it.

The UFC superstar's representatives released a statement immediately after Halloween, clarifying the same. The statement read:

"The McGregor family loves Halloween. Mrs McGregor had spiders painted on her face since her costume was a ghoul risen from the grave. Any other interpretation was just wrong and truly unfortunate." h/t mirror.co.uk

"Blackface" has its roots in racism, with many white actors in theaters painting their faces dark black to enact overblown stereotypes of people with African heritage. The practice dates back to minstrel shows that were popular mainly in the U.S. during the 1800s through the mid-20th century.

Conor McGregor has previously been in controversies surrounding racism

Conor McGregor was accused of using homophobic and racial slurs by Floyd Mayweather in the lead-up to their clash in 2017. 'The Notorious' told Mayweather to dance for him and also made a reference to "dancing monkeys."

McGregor crudely responded to the allegations while promoting his fight against Mayweather at the Barclays Center. The Irishman claimed to be "half-black" from the waist down:

"Let’s address the race. A lot of the media seem to be saying I’m against black people. That’s absolutely f***ing ridiculous. Did they not know I’m half-black? Yeah, I’m half-black from the bellybutton down."

'The Notorious' also added before thrusting his hips suggestively:

"And just to show that that’s squashed, here’s a present for my beautiful, black female fans.”

Conor McGregor was also publicly accused of being racist by singer Sinead O’Connor in April 2020. The Irishman had stated that flying in people from the "outside world" for farming labor would "break the chains of all command" in Ireland.
