Joe Rogan's private texts to Elon Musk were made public in new court filings on Thursday as part of the lawsuit brought by Twitter.

The lawsuit tried to force Musk to purchase the social media company after the billionaire attempted to back out of their initial deal. Musk ultimately bought Twitter last week in a $44 billion takeover that led to the firing of the company's top executives.

One of the more interesting things during the Twitter takeover saga was the behind-the-scenes dealings, as was revealed in the court documents. The texts – which were first published by Kate Conger of the New York Times and compiled by Gizmodo – show message exchanges between Musk and the likes of Rogan, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, media mogul Mathias Döpfner and former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal.

Based on the messages, it appears that Musk was initially tapped to join Twitter's board as some sort of consultant. This was evident through Musk’s exchanges with Rogan and Agrawal. The UFC color commentator asked Musk:

"Are you going to liberate Twitter from the censorship happy mob?"

To which Musk replied that he will only provide advice, which the company "may or may not choose to follow."

However, things took a turn when Agrawal confronted Musk about his anti-Twitter sentiments online. At this point, Musk revealed that he no longer intended to join the board, but will instead make an offer to take Twitter private.

Joe Rogan hopes Elon Musk takeover brings back "reasonable exchange of ideas" to Twitter

Joe Rogan praised Elon Musk for wanting to bring an end to censorship on Twitter after the billionaire officially acquired the social media network on Thursday. During episode #1890 of the Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator spoke with writer and comedian Bridget Phetasy about Musk's $44 billion deal.

"Elon took over Twitter today, like we live in a simulation," Phetasy said. "That crazy bastard did it."

Even when the Twitter deal seemed to be falling apart, Rogan firmly believed that Musk would eventually purchase the social media giant. Now that the deal is done Rogan said:

"I think we have a real problem with discourse on Twitter. What some would like to do is silence those that have opposing viewpoints, and then you get all this positive feedback from all the people that agree with you."
