Conor McGregor's associate and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu grappler Dillon Danis expressed his support for Ben Askren in light of his recent health issue. Recently, Aksren's wife, Amy Askren, revealed that he is receiving treatment at the hospital due to severe health complications. While pneumonia has been cited as the primary reason for Askren's deteriorating health, some sources have speculated that staph infection could be a contributing factor as well.
In a recent post on X, Danis expressed his feelings on the situation, praying for Askren's speedy recovery. He wrote:
"I heard the news before it hit the media about Ben Askren. It’s a lot more serious than people think. No matter how bad our beef might’ve been, he’s a great coach and a family man. Praying he pulls through this."

Askren and Danis have been engaged in a long-standing beef with each other. However, their rivalry has been primarily fueled by social media altercations and one-upping game, and the competitive element of combat sports has been a secondary factor. That said, many praised Danis in the comments section for extending his support for Askren. However, a few accused him of trying to grab headlines with the situation.
Ben Askren's wife urged supporters to refrain from discussing his health issue with their children
Ben Askren's wife, Amy Askren, recently gave an update about his health in a Facebook post. While revealing that he was unable to respond at the moment, Amy urged their well-wishers to refrain from discussing the issue with their children, as the family has been trying to keep things as normal as possible for them.
She wrote:
"You may have heard that my husband Ben is going through something. He developed severe pneumonia, which came on very suddenly. He’s currently in the hospital and unable to respond to anything at this time. We welcome all prayers for healing and for peace. We are trying to keep life as normal as possible for our children currently and doing our best to support them thoughtfully, so please refrain from discussing it with them for now." [H/T MMA Junkie]
For a long time, Askren, 40, was considered among the best MMA fighters competing outside the UFC and went on an undefeated run, winning the Bellator and ONE FC welterweight titles. After a brief stint in the UFC, Askren retired from competition in November 2019. He has three children, Ozy, Andy and Alex, with his wife Amy.
Our team at Sportskeeda MMA wishes a speedy recovery to Ben Askren.
