BJJ Superstar Gordon Ryan puts it on 'The Mountain' as they have a friendly roll

Gordon Ryan is widely known as perhaps the greatest no-gi jiu-jitsu artist of all time. The American's unparalleled dominance in the sport and his mastery of techniques saw him win multiple world championships in some of the biggest competitions.

Unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old had no problem proving why he dominated the sport against the 2018 World's Strongest Man winner. While the pair have about a 50kg weight difference between them, it did not seem to bother Ryan.

In a video posted on Instagram by Thor Bjornsson aka 'The Mountain' from Game of Thrones, Gordon Ryan can be seen rolling with Bjornsson. The video shows the submission maestro easily maneuvering the giant-sized actor.

Gordon Ryan recently competed at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3 event held at the UFC Apex Facility on December 15. The submission-only grappling event saw some of the world's greatest submission grapplers go head-to-head for a $25,000 prize.

Ryan went up against Nick Rodriguez, whom he defeated in overtime via the fastest escape time. The American was originally set to take on veteran Vinny Magalhaes, however, the Brazilian had to pull out of their match due to a weight-cut issue. Magalhaes also beat Gordon Ryan back in 2018.

popularizing the sport of grappling and jiu-jitsu

Gordon Ryan recently shared his opinion on how the UFC hosting submission-only grappling events will help the sport become more visible and famous among fans of combat sports.

Speaking at a recent pre-fight presser, Ryan appeared in front of the media before his bout at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3. When asked about how being a part of a UFC event affected his fame and popularity, 'The Iron Dragon' stated:

"I think this is a big jump for the sport as a whole... Now you're having a crossover between mixed martial arts and jiu-jitsu. I think ADCC was the first step, having 13 000 people watching a live event.. I think the UFC partnership with grapplers is going to catapult the sport into a new realm."

While terms like jiu-jitsu and grappling are quite common vocabulary among fans of MMA, there is no denying that the surge in popularity of submission grappling tournaments has helped grow Brazilian jiu-jitsu even further.

With already popular tournaments like the ADCC helping popularize the sport, the addition of the UFC's unrivaled influence in the sphere of combat sports will surely take it to new heights.
