Ernest Hall, was killed in a mass shooting in March ahead of his junior featherweight bout on April 1, 2023. Police were called to the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue in response to a ShotSpotter alert, where they found six people were shot.

Following the tragic incident, a large and diverse crowd gathered at the Lightning Quick Fit Boxing Club on Morton Street in Mount Vernon to hold a vigil in memory of Ernest Hall, a boxer from Baltimore who was shot and died in West Baltimore.

The killing of boxer Ernest Hall in Baltimore led to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy recently. Around 4:30 p.m., the 15-year-old was apprehended in the 2800 block of Baker Street thanks to the combined efforts of the Southwest District Action Team, the Baltimore Community Intelligence Centre (BCIC), and Foxtrot.

He has been accused with first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and various violations involving handguns. Michael Harrison, commissioner of the Baltimore City Police Department, stated that a vehicle halted at the scene and multiple shooters exited the vehicle before firing indiscriminately into a gathering of people. The shooters then apparently returned to their vehicle and fled the scene.

A charity boxing match was held a week after Hall's death in Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood to honor the fighter. His relatives have promised to keep running the gym he started in his memory and are starting a trust fund for his kids. Ernest Hall's family has also released a statement through WJZ-TV following the arrest of the 15-year-old convict:

"On behalf of the children of Ernest Hall, the family would like to thank the hard and diligent work of the Baltimore City Police Department on the swift apprehension of the first suspect in our loved ones murder."
"Due to the current suspects age we would also like to extend our prayers to his family as they are now experiencing a family tragedy as well. We plea to the remaining suspects to turn yourselves in; as it is not to late to change your lives. We ask that Justice be served fair and lightning quick."

Ernest Hall started boxing after his brother was shot dead in 2016

In 2016, Ernest Hall's brother was found dead from gunshot wounds inside a burning car. When police arrived at the scene of the shooting in February 2016, they discovered his brother, James Thompson, trapped inside a burning car.

Following his brother's death, Hall created a video titled "Guns to Gloves." In the video, Hall explains why boxing became his release:

"This is the main reason why I box is because I feel like boxing is a main outlet for me to make some money and I can move out of the city. I have a daughter, and I don't want her to grow up the way I grew up and seen the things I've seen in the city."
