Conor McGregor has not competed in mixed martial arts in three years as his last trip to the octagon came when he broke his leg at UFC 264 in July 2021. While he appeared set to return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June, 'The Notorious' had to withdraw because of a pinky toe injury.

Chael Sonnen recently praised the former double champ leading him to express that his mixed martial arts career is not done. 'The American Gangster' shared a video discussing McGregor's legacy, stating:

"Conor McGregor, what will his legacy be? Have we forgotten how great he was? 145 and 155 are the most difficult weight classes in the sport. Conor was the champion of both divisions simultaneously. That is insane. Conor McGregor has won so many world championships that he forgot one. He's a champ, champ, champ. He forgot that he won the interim championship. I was there. I watched his fight with Chad Mendes."
"He had to beat the greatest 145 pounder to ever live. He ended up doing it in 11 seconds. He parlays that into one of the baddest dudes I have ever met - Eddie Alvarez. He took that, he parlayed it against the greatest boxer that sport has ever seen and went 30 minutes with him... Conor McGregor was truly, perhaps, the best fighter that's ever done this."

McGregor shared Sonnen's post to his Instagram story, stating that he will make a comeback. He wrote :

"I [am] not done. It's too handy for me to come back at any time at all and just swipe the game up again entirely. Every walk is a record."

While many have doubted that he will fight again, McGregor has teased that hopes to return to the famed octagon at the beginning of 2025. However, many still doubt about his return.

Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen have bantered on multiple occasions

Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen famously went back and forth on stage at a promotional event for UFC Fight Night 30 in 2013 with the two making fun of one another's outfits. 'The American Gangster' first targeted 'The Notorious' outfit, leading the latter to joke about the former middle and light heavyweight title challenger's shoes.

Sonnen reignited the feud earlier this year as he accused McGregor of faking the toe injury before later tweeting:

"Conor Macgregor A guy who wears dress shoes w/no socks Then acts surprised when his TOE falls off"

While the two have exchanged words, there does not appear to be any true animosity between them. Sonnen made that clear on Saturday as he praised McGregor for his accomplishments in the octagon.
