Conor McGregor looks back at viral interview from Cage Warriors days

Conor McGregor looked back on an interview with Cage Warriors where he discussed his dreams of fighting in the UFC.

Before the money and fame, McGregor was a rising prospect looking to make a name for himself on the regional scene. In June 2012, 'The Notorious claimed the vacant featherweight Cage Warriors title. Six months later, he received an opportunity to fight for the vacant lightweight throne in the same promotion.

Heading into Cage Warriors 51, the Dublin native interviewed with BT Sport and talked about his journey in mixed martial arts. During the short interview, McGregor was asked the following question:

"Tell us a bit about your general plans in the sport. Where do you see yourself going? What's your sort of career map as you see it?"

McGregor recently shared the throwback footage on his Instagram stories, which featured the following response to the previously mentioned question:

"I don't know. I definitely see a twin [Cage Warriors world title] on this shoulder on New Year's Eve. Then who knows? I'm just gonna keep positive and keep the way I always am and believe in myself no matter what and put the hours in the gym."

McGregor continued:

"The sky is the limit, who knows what's around the corner? I could be in the UFC and you never know where I could end. You never know what's around the corner. Just keep positive and keep happy and doing what you love doing and f*ck everything else."

At Cage Warriors 51, McGregor secured a first-round knockout win to become a two-division champion. A few months later, he signed with the UFC and the rest is history, as the Irish superstar became arguably the most well-known fighter of all time, making hundreds of millions of dollars along the way.

Conor McGregor looks for 11th UFC win in highly-anticipated Octagon return

Conor McGregor's last fight was in July 2021 when he suffered a potential career-ending leg injury against Dustin Poirier. Fans began losing hope about him fighting again before an official announcement was made that he would fight Michael Chandler on June 29 in the UFC 303 main event.

Chandler is also coming off an extended layoff, as he hasn't fought since Dustin Poirier defeated him by third-round submission in November 2022. 'Iron' coached against McGregor on 'The Ultimate Fighter Season 31' and waited patiently for the high-paying matchup, which will take place on International Fight Week.
