It’s common for wealthy athletes and celebrities to look for additional long-term investments in businesses they enjoy, and Conor McGregor is no different. McGregor is putting his name in the mix to purchase Liverpool FC, which is one of the best football clubs in the world.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the current owner of Liverpool FC, is looking to sell the club. A fan tweeted at the former two-division UFC champion to buy the club, which he agreed to:

“I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club! @LFC”

Despite Liverpool’s success in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, FSG has been viewed in a negative light. They supported the failed European Super League, which many feel would have taken away the purity of 'The Beautiful Game'.

FSG didn’t confirm whether the club was for sale or not, but they basically insinuated that they were entertaining offers. The company released a statement saying that they would consider a sale if it was in the club's best interest:

“There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumors of changes in ownership at EPL [English Premier League] clubs. And inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool.”

If Liverpool FC is sold, it’s safe to assume that the price would be well over $4 billion. With that in mind, any bid McGregor makes will likely be as a member of a consortium ownership group.

It would be interesting to see who would join ‘The Notorious’ in a potential bid for the English football giants. Perhaps others in MMA or even the entertainment industry would join the ownership group, which is common in pro sports and even in football leagues like Major League Soccer.

When will Conor McGregor return to the UFC?

There has been a lot of speculation on when Conor McGregor will make his UFC return. He last fought at UFC 264, where he lost his trilogy bout to Dustin Poirier via doctor's stoppage after breaking his leg towards the end of the first round.

'The Notorious' has since recovered from his surgery, but the timeline for his return is uncertain. The former two-divison UFC champion recently joined the cast for the remake of the 1989 film Road House, which starred Patrick Swayze.

It was also revealed that McGregor hasn't been in the USADA testing pool. He'll need to re-enter the USADA pool for at least 6 months before he can return to the octagon.
