Laura Sanko made her debut as a UFC commentator last weekend on a card headlined by Derrick Lewis and Sergey Spivac. A regular backstage reporter, Sanko became the second female color commentator in UFC history and the first ever in the Zuffa era.

UFC head honcho Dana White was impressed with Sanko's work at UFC Vegas 68. White also claims to have received several text messages from people complimenting Sanko's commentary. The 53-year-old said in an interview with Charly Arnolt:

"This was her destiny. She has been an absolute savage since the day she walked in here, pushing for this hard. Tonight was her big night, she delivered. I had tons of people texting me talking about what a great job she did tonight and I'm happy for her."

A former atomweight fighter, Laura Sanko started broadcast work under the all-female Invicta FC in 2014. She joined the UFC as a backstage reporter in 2016 and has since been pushing hard to join the commentary booth.

Dana White previously stated that he couldn't think of anyone more deserving than Sanko to become the first UFC female commentator of the modern era.

Laura Sanko breaks down Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski

Islam Makhachev will look to defend his lightweight title against featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski next weekend at UFC 284 in Perth. Despite Volkanovski's No.1 spot on the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, people expect Makhachev to have a size and reach advantage over 'The Great' due to the Dagastani being a natural lightweight.

However, Laura Sanko believes Volkanovksi has multiple attributes to negate Makhachev's size advantage, which is largely overlooked. The 40-year-old recently told Submission Radio:

“100% and he has very long arms. His arms are not necessarily proportionate to his height. He has a deceptively long range for being a shorter guy, which really negates some of the reach that we are discussing. His ability to close distance, if he wants to, is amazing. His angles are incredible. His speed in the pocket is incredible. His eyes in the pocket. I mean, he has a lot of attributes that people might be sleeping on because everyone is hung up on size and Islam’s dominance in the grappling.”

Sanko also listed outside calf kicks as a potential weapon for Volkanovski to outpoint Makhachev.
