If there’s one thing Danial Williams learned about himself this year it’s this: that it’s alright to take some time off from fighting to heal his mind and body.

Last year, Williams fought in four MMA bouts in a span of eight months before realizing he needed a break. However, the decision to cut back didn’t come instantly. He had to lose to Jeremy Miado last October for him to realize that his body needed some rest.

During his inactivity, Williams had time to be more self-reflective about his own needs and wants instead of focusing all his energy on pleasing others.

Ahead of his next fight this Friday, the Perth native told ONE:

“Yeah, definitely a thing of the past because it's just not really understanding myself. And it was kind of doing things for other people other than yourself. As I said, the big thing, rest, it’s an important thing for me now. It always has been. I was just so distracted with things. I tried to make money."
"Resting has been the biggest thing that's going to help me the most this year, and I've sorted that out now. So yeah, I don't think I'll burn out at all. I just think I'm just doing a lot of self-work.”

Danial Williams is on a collision course to challenge Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the ONE flyweight kickboxing world title at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video. Originally, Rodtang Jitmuagnon was slated to face the divisional king but 'The Iron Man' withdrew from the bout due to an injury.

As providence would have it, Williams has been fast-tracked to a world title and thankfully he had the good sense to rest his body before Friday (March 24) night.

Danial Williams feels like 2023 will be a big year for him

Already heading in the right direction, Danial Williams knows that this year will hold big things for him.

In the same interview, Williams explained the importance of self-reflection and evaluating what you want out of life so that you become a stronger and better person for it.

“I started doing it last year. And now I'm just starting to understand myself a little bit better. I feel like this year is already becoming the best year of my life, outside of fighting, too, just understanding myself a little bit more."
"Saying no to things has been a massive thing in my life. I can never say no to things. I do that. Catching up with people, being a social butterfly. Now important things are on the line, and just learning a lot about myself last year was a massive learning [experience].”
