Since arriving in ONE Championship this year, Danielle Kelly has become one of the most talked about submission grapplers on the promotion’s roster.
The 27-year old has all the makings of becoming a huge star in ONE and recently claimed her first submission victory inside the circle at ONE on Prime Video 4.
Earlier this year, Danielle Kelly made headlines by calling out one of ONE Championship’s most established stars.
Current ONE women’s atomweight world champion Angela Lee is known for her grappling ability but Kelly wants to test her skills under ONE’s submission grappling ruleset.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Kelly spoke about how her back and forth with Lee first started:
“Angela Lee, I only called her out because she said she can submit me. I like easy matches. I said it before. No hard feelings. But you know, I mean, if I’m such an easy match then just take the match.”
Kelly has competed twice inside the circle, making her debut in March earlier this year. After she was left disappointed by her first bout being a draw against Mei Yamaguchi, Kelly got herself in the win column in her last fight against Mariia Molchanova.
Danielle Kelly training hard to rise to meet lofty expectations
With so much potential as a submission grappler, Danielle Kelly is focused on improving every time she steps inside the circle. The 27-year old New Jersey native recently secured her first submission victory since signing with ONE Championship. Defeating Mariia Molchanova at ONE on Prime Video 4, Kelly is already starting to become a star for the promotion.
She is part of the ONE submission grappling roster that has had a huge year in 2022 with some big signings and performances. The past 12 months have seen the promotion invest heavily in the sport, leading the way with its current submission grappling world champions Kade Ruotolo and Mikey Musumeci.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Danielle Kelly spoke about the growth of jiu-jitsu in recent times:
“I think, being in this position, I feel pretty blessed but also it’s work now. People are watching me, there are more eyes on me. So it made me work harder, and work more. This is a job to me, something I like to do."
Danielle Kelly added:
"So I think what I got out of it this year is I think I’m a different grappler. So, yeah, I’m taking it seriously and I’m just really, really grateful to be here and be in a spot that I’m in.”
