Sage Northcutt explains his four-year-long absence from competition

Sage Northcutt’s four-year-long break from the competition has been the talk of the sports world today.

He made his first and only appearance in ONE Championship in May 2019, when he was knocked out cold by Brazilian knockout machine Cosmo Alexander in the first round.

The karate superstar said he spent a couple of weeks in recovery after suffering multiple facial fractures after his debut fight.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani from The MMA Hour, Northcutt also revealed that he was plagued by health issues which prevented him from re-entering competition.

On The MMA Hour, the 26-year-old said:

“I actually had a fight scheduled. I was supposed to fight Shinya Aoki, but two weeks out from my fight, two weeks when I was supposed to leave to go overseas, I came down and caught COVID and that just kind of like threw everything for a loop.
"I was pretty sick for a little bit, it took like 6 months of doing blood work, trying to figure out what’s going on [...] for several days not doing anything whatsoever, feeling super sick, I end up getting, like a blood clot and well that took a little bit of time.”
