UFC president Dana White recently launched his new combat sports venture, the Power Slap League, which made its television debut on January 18. The highly controversial sport involves two competitors slapping each other until one of them gets knocked out or concedes.

The very first episode started with a welterweight bout between Chris Thomas and Chris Kennedy, which resulted in Kennedy absorbing a brutal shot to the face. Kennedy dropped to the floor unconscious and after a long period of unresponsiveness, Thomas was declared the winner.

After regaining consciousness, Kennedy looked dazed and confused by his surroundings and seemed like he could not place himself properly. He failed to recollect that he even competed in the competition and was unable to stand up without support.

His slurred words and inability to remember where he was after getting knocked out pointed to a potential short-term memory loss occurring due to the trauma.

The brutal nature of this new sport has not gone unnoticed and Dana White has come under heavy fire for being associated with it. Many health experts and combat enthusiasts have condemned the sport for its dangerous ruleset and concerns about fighters' health.

Brendan Schuab says Dana White being associated to slap fighting is bad for the UFC and MMA

Brendan Schaub recently claimed that Dana White being so closely associated with the Power Slap Fighting League is detrimental to the development of MMA, especially considering White's position as UFC president.

In a recent tweet, Schaub expressed his displeasure at the new sport and, while admitting its entertainment value, claimed that slap-fighting should not be with the UFC. He posted on Twitter:

"Checking out the Slap fight league. This is the stupidest shit I’ve ever seen. The fact it’s associated with the UFC sets the sport back 10 yrs. All that being said it’s entertaining. Anyone wanna bet it’s not around in a year?"

While the show was initially scheduled to make its debut on January 11, Dana White confirmed that the backlash from his viral domestic altercation on New Year's Eve in Mexico was responsible for the premier date being pushed to January 18.

White also denied that there was any possibility of TBS Network canceling the show entirely after a video of his fracas went viral on social media.
