Michael Chandler continues to deal with the fallout from his comments following his lopsided UFC 309 loss to Charles Oliveira. Now, it is former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez who has taken a swipe at 'Iron,' popping up in the comment section of an Instagram post sharing Chandler's comments.

UFC 309 marked one of Chandler's worst performances, as he spent all but the final round getting completely dominated by Oliveira, who stunned the crowd in attendance by outwrestling 'Iron' with relative ease. Chandler, though, claimed that he'd beat Oliveira nine out of 10 times.

This led to a tremendous amount of ridicule online, which has brought Alvarez into the fold, who was more than happy to poke fun at his old Bellator rival.

"His muscles were on point, I was sure he'd get it done. For future reference.. You always bail on cutting a promo post fight of [if] you get whooped ... Free game, your [you're] welcome."

Despite Alvarez's claim, Chandler did cut a promo after his latest loss to 'do Bronx,' albeit less intense. It was punctuated by yet another callout of Conor McGregor, whose UFC return seems to be in limbo. As far as his career's direction moving forward, 'Iron' appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show with an outline.

He, as expected, challenged McGregor once again, but also mentioned reigning 'BMF' champion Max Holloway and the belt's original owner Jorge Masvidal as interesting matchups. The latter, though, is unlikely. 'Gamebred' is retired and despite his own interest in returning to the UFC, it does not seem mutual.

Masvidal walked away from the sport after a four-fight losing streak booted him from the welterweight top 10 and age slowed him down considerably. So, Chandler will almost certainly have to settle for a different opponent moving forward.

Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez have fought each other twice

The bad blood between Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez is partially due to the pair's history in the cage. While they never locked horns inside the octagon, they did face each other in Bellator on two occasions for the promotion's lightweight title. The first fight went Chandler's way.

Chandler emerged victorious via fourth-round submission, dethroning Alvarez as the Bellator lightweight champion in November 2011.

Two years later, they took part in a thrilling rematch. This time, Alvarez recaptured the title via split-decision.
