Let's have a look at all you need to know about UFC Lightweight Division
The Lightweight Division in MMA contains different weight classes. The UFC Lightweight Division, in particular, limits fighters within 146-155 lb (66-70 kg). The UFC Lightweight Division is between the Featherweight and Welterweight Division. The current UFC Lightweight Division is also considered as one of the most stacked UFC Weight Classes.
The current Undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion is Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib announced his retirement at UFC 254 after defeating Interim Champion Justin Gaethje but has not yet vacated his title.
Prior to UFC 31 in 2001, the Lightweight Title was known as the Bantamweight Title. The Strikeforce Lightweight Title was seemingly unified with the UFC Lightweight Title on April 20, 2013, when Benson Henderson defeated Gilbert Melendez.
The UFC Lightweight Title has been held by the likes of B.J.Penn, Frankie Edgar, Anthony Pettis, Rafael Dos Anjos, and Eddie Alvarez throughout the years. At UFC 205, Conor McGregor won the UFC Lightweight Championship after defeating Eddie Alvarez and became the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two divisions (Featherweight and Lightweight) simultaneously. After McGregor was stripped of the title due to inactivity, Khabib Nurmagomedov became the UFC Lightweight Champion after beating Al Iaquinta at UFC 223.
At UFC 236, Dustin Poirier became the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship by beating Max Holloway. At UFC 242, Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Dustin Poirier via submission to unify the UFC Lightweight Championship.
Justin Gaethje won the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 249 by defeating Tony Ferguson but lost the championship unification bout against Khabib at UFC 254. Khabib Nurmagomedov still remains the current UFC Lightweight Champion.
