Filipino-American Muay Thai star Jackie Buntan capped off a stellar first year in ONE Championship with a spectacular showing against Daniela Lopez at ONE: Empower in September 2021.

Staying calm in the pocket and cautiously picking her spots at when to attack, Buntan prevented the FA Group athlete from finding her groove throughout their three-round encounter. Despite Lopez reaching the final bell, Buntan took the unanimous decision win due to her non-stop aggression.

Kickstarting her tenure under the ONE banner on a three-fight winning streak allowed Buntan to fight for the inaugural ONE women's strawweight Muay Thai world championship against Smilla Sundell at ONE 156 in April 2022.

Though the 27-year-old ultimately lost to 'The Hurricane', she has since made up for it by going on another three-fight winning streak.

Buntan will now fight the legendary Anissa Meksen over the inaugural ONE women's strawweight kickboxing world championship at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' on Nov. 8 inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Jackie Buntan noted how she can pull off the upset over Anissa Meksen at ONE 169 after watching her December 2023 fight against Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom over the ONE interim women's atomweight kickboxing world championship.

Buntan exclusively told Sportskeeda MMA:

"Yeah, I definitely watched that fight, given it was her last fight, too, her most recent one. Yeah, I saw a lot of strengths on Phetjeeja's end and I saw a lot of weaknesses on Anissa's end. I also have an idea of how Anissa moves, kind of her thought process behind her movement."
